What are your tricks for getting low price airfare???

Do you have any hints/tips/tricks for finding the low airfare?? Is it better to purchase way in advance, or right before you want to go?? Is it better to go in the "off season" or really not worth the price break?? Looking for any tips anyone has!! Thanks!!

Airfare alert from the airline or American Express travel works great for me. Research several months before if I know I need a ticket to a certain destination.
Checking this site often
http://www.bookingbuddy.com

If a price is in my budget, I buy immediately. if the price goes down, I call the airline and get a credit.

For vacation I'm planning, I usually book 4-6 months out if it's a popular destination.

I'm going to the USVI in May and my flight has 4 seats left on it and the price is $150 dollars more.

Research all options EARLY is the best advise I can give you.

Good luck and happy travels)

1. Travel Thurs-Mon
2. Use cheaptickets.com
3. If your schedule is flexible use hotwire.com
4. use travelsmarter.com

Yes, the earlier you book, the cheaper. If you want to take advantage of a last minute deal, I know a website that has amazingly low prices if you are willing to leave in the next couple weeks. And, of course, the off season is cheaper.

The travel website I use is smaller than the more well-known sites, but is just as reliable, and often times cheaper.

The website is www.YourTripStartsHere.com

Find the link that says "Last Minute International Deals". There are flight/hotel packages ranging anywhere from $350 to $700 and up. There are a lot of destinations to choose from.

The last minute deals are really the best part about this site.

I watch Travelocity like a hawk but I never buy from them. And I check at wierd times for my fares, like midnight Tuesday and Wednesday....also I am signed up for their farewatcher so they send me alerts when the fares get to my liking.
When I see the fare I want, I then go to the airline site directly and enter in the same dates I enter in at Travelocity. It is usually at least $10 bucks cheaper because you aren't paying the travelocity fee.

purchase WAY in advance.
i fly home from college all the time and i can get tickets for up to 50-100 dollars cheaper when i purchase way adavance.
and sign up for frequent flyer miles because they can add up and you can get good discounts.

i go on nwa.com about 10 days before the flight (usually good sale fares) leaving on a tuesday or wednesday. usually northwest is the cheapest, sometimes delta is. i go on cheaptickets.com to see who has the lowest price then i go right to the airlines website because its usually the same low price with the airline. alot of times if you book thru another agent website the fare is more restrictive and you cant make any changes. plus if you book on cheaptickets.com or other like websites and you have a problem with seats or something the airline will charge you to fix/change it.

well, you could LIVE at your computer and find the lowest prices by checking every travel website or you can go to yapta.com and download there free software.it does the work for you. it tracks your ticket prices and then alerts you to the price drop. of course this doesn't fit everyones needs but it does allow you to file for a refund if the price drops after your purchase.

haggerpotter
i usually purchase about 2 months in advance. in that week i check expedia, orbitz, travelocity, priceline, airplane websites directly, travelzoo, cheaptickets... i play around with the dates (most times you can hit flexible dates and they show you the best prices) and by doing all this i get an idea of what the average price is.. the moment i find something under the average i book it! and don't hesitate because they change the prices constantly.
