Hi,

When I flew alone to South Africa, I found it very difficult to sleep especially as I was in economy. I had booked myself an aisle seat, so I was able to get up several times for a walk without being a 'pain'. A few times, I found some other passengers in a group talking at the back and we had a good chat. There's always others who can't sleep on a long haul flight and some very interesting people on a 'plane. You just had to find them. To help pass the time, I tried to doze and 'detach' and read/listened to music and wrote a few cards to friends. There were in-flight movies and music. My first long distance flight out there was the worst as I was flying on my own and did not know what to expect. It was better flying home as I knew what to expect (I also had someone with me-company helps a lot but the return flight would have been better even on my own). If you can't sleep, try to walk as much as you can (get an aisle seat) and drink minimal alcohol but max soft drinks (some water if you can) as alcohol will dehydrate you.

As you're in business class, the conditions are much better and you should be able to comfortably doze if not sleep. You are not cramped. Don't worry-the eleven hours will pass. You just need a good shower at your destination and an early night (unless there is a major time difference-there isn't for S Africa). Hope you have a good trip.

I have just done 11 hours flight last week from LHR to NRT.
In fact to go to LHR from NRT takes time about 12 hours or more!
Well...I have done this long round trip three times however I did not think I was bording or feels sick.
Basicaly I always enjoying such a long journey...I soppuse all these feeling comes from just be positive and trying be fun on borad....Careful tasting each meal and snack....drink....
Trying be relax with nice music if air plane has great music system. And to watching films or TV if only plane has these system though.
I always bring my favo magazine such in my case cooking book.

I have some ideas because i fly a lot and it is one of my favorite subjects to talk about flying and fly! I don't know why it just give me a butterfly feeling and I love that feeling. Ha ha OK...

Normally they have a area that is like a store, and it have DVD players and movies. It is right in front of your gate where the food and other stores are.

You can rent DVD players and DVDs there. I suggest renting a DVD player and around 3 DVDs for an 11 hour flight.

You can also get those crossword puzzle books, magazines, or a game boy.

I forgot the store that has the DVD players might have game boys or maybe game s for a laptop. It all depends what airline you are traveling..

I suggest you check out that rental place because they know the things that will keep you entertained on a 11 hour flight.

GOOD LUCK and have fun!

Take something that would be really interesting to you. Judging by your character, you probly would be interested in porn. So bring yourself some hustler mags, some porno DVDs and a DVD player for hours of porn fun.

Other than that, you could prolly read yourself some novel by Stephen Kings, John Grisham, or Dan Brown. They'll be good alternative from the common boob tube. Best thing in the world is a good conversation with your seatmate. That's always a good thing when you're flying.

bring a good book with you. there's also a newspaper you can read. or bring crossword puzzles, or any kind of puzzles of your interest. you may also be bringing you laptop, dont you? make sure you have lots on computer games on it. or you may bring lots of food with you and eat all the way of the flight.. LOL... in short there's a lot you can do.

Snake_Lover
Do your homework. Think. Play a game boy or a PSP. Bring a portable DVD player. Eat. Bring a very interesting book. Sleeping pills. Look out the window. Drink. Go to the bathroom. Talk.

learning a new language during your flights would probably be a very positive experience, especially if you travel a lot for work you may even need it. Try one of the most spoken international languages so that you will be able to get use out of it. You can use cds for listening to it, interactive language games on your laptop in addition to just learning from a book.
If you fly a lot, it could become habitual for you to open your language book/games/cd while en route and it could be a nice addition to your C.V. also.

If you get sick of watching fictional movies and feel like you have seen everything, try downloading an atlas of basic anatomy movies from the web and watch those. It's nice to know how the human body works... good luck!

Hey there i say first of all book is mans best frnd so if ur bored try out some new collection from somewhere. Other than reading there is another option take ur walkman with u so u can listen to ur favourite tracks then or a small radio if u wish. Or if u have got ur laptop with u check in at yahoo answers its entertaining or chat thru the net in myspace, hotmail or somewhere. If ur a a computer game lover load some new games in ur laptop. Or u can even chat on ur mobile or search 4 something there. N one more thing u say ur going thru flight so there u can posibbly watch TV, I guess these are the best alternatives i can provide. Hope ur journey is not boring n last but not da least Happy Journey.

I just got off a 9 hour flight a few days ago. I slept, played games on my DS, and watched TV/movies. Most longer flights provide you with either 1 movie everyone watches if they choose to plug in their headsets or actual mini TV screens/monitors where you get to use a remote and individually select what you want to watch. For instance, my husband watched 2 movies, and I watched E "Entertaintment" special, and a dolphin documentary. You could also read or do word puzzles from a book. You should be fine. Jet lag has been hard though. So try to sleep at a similiar time as you would in wherever it is you are going. I'm on about 4 days of jet lag now. Final tip: If you are not flying direct and connect first be sure to take the 2 prong head phones that are likely free from the short flight to use on the longer flight because the longer flights will likely charge you $5 for the head phones. You can bring your own 1 prong head phones, but you'll only be able to hear it through one ear/side.

11 hours? that`s nothing, i have been in the plane for more than that and having transit for almost 18 hours in an airport. so, i think you have got lots of suggestions already.
