Almost everything that people have told you here is pretty good advice except for the Dramamine...that stuff is for 'sea/car/air sickness' and can have very bad side effects, especially when under stress!!!
For stress/fear, aromatherapy (as was already suggested / lavender) and chamomile tea, teddy bear, music, books, etc. are all good non-drug methods.
If you need drugs, then Benadryl (sp?) is good, but may make her groggy the next day as well, Nyquil (sp?) is almost the same as taking a shot of alcohol, and valium would be the prescription way, or some type of anti-anxiety medication.
There is an amino acid called L-theanine (can get at most health food stores) that is good for anxiety as well, but should not be taken if the person is taking anti-depressants.
If you try the L-theanine, take it for a few days before if you can, maybe even twice a day. My son used it to quit smoking, worked GREAT!
Good luck. |

Tell her that you have a surprise thing for her (a gift or some good news or anything) which you will tell her when she reaches Gran Canaria. So that she will think of it till she reaches there.. distracts her from the flight.
A chewing gum will help a lot..
Also u can give some small fancy gift, a toy or a puzzle so that she will be engaged with that rather than thinking of the flight..
cheers,

You could use 'Kalms' that works apparently. Its safer flying in a plane then it is walking down the street, driving in your car, being at home, being at work or riding your bike. Planes just have bad press and you are unfamiliar with them.
If she is scared of the turbulence or the movement of a plane, take a bottle of water, place it on the table in front of you. If you watch it, the water hardly moves and hopefully reassures her that its a bit down to her imagination.
They do courses on it at Virgin and other places! |

Try a couple of vodka and grapefruit juice.
Its not important that its 8:30 in the morning.
I'm terrified of flying and i get almost legless before i will get on a plane no matter what time of day it is.
It really does help just don't let her over do it.
I think many people will have a drink or two regardless of the time |

Get her an appointment with the doctor or nurse at her practise, if the receptionist says no appointments left them tell them you want an emergency appointment, the doctor should be able to either give your girlfriend something or recommend something to help her, have you tried some of those relaxation techniques, there has to be a website somewhere with a list of the best ones, airport websites have tips on how to help calm frightened flyer's, she can't give her hopes and dreams up for the bad guys of this world, just be sympathetic with her and have a brilliant holiday, good luck. |

make sure she knows that the pilot has flown hundreds of times before and the chances of a flight problem or highjacking are sooo small that itll happen the day you fly, and the chances itll happen to your particular plane are like, yeah crazy small.
so really, its safer than driving your car or walking across the street, cause car accidents are alot alot more common! |

I know this may sound silly but bring along her favorite stuffed animal, if she doesn't have one buy her one and give it to her to hold on to during the flight. She will be so tickled that you are concerned about her comfort that the thought alone should help her. Hope this helps. |

My office mates husband was *deathly* affraid to fly,
so when they had to fly from PA to CA to see his 1st grandchild, she took him to the Dr and got him a prescription for Valium.
They gave him 6 pills, 3 for the trip out, three for the trip back.
It was enough to calm him down, and he did *great*
Maybe that would work. |

make her her own special travel pack, put in magazines, books, sweets, note from you - whatever - stuff to distract her while she travels. if i was travelling now id also be scared cause, i tend to panic at the slightest thing, and if my boyfriend did this for me i know id appreciate it. |

I hate to fly as well and my fiance has one heck of a time with me when we fly. I'm a nervous wreck. However, I find that if I have music with me it calms me down. The bottom line is that she needs something to take her mind off of the flying. Make sure you have plenty of reading material - or bring a travel game. That helps as well. And... if Nyquil puts her out I would recommend taking some Nyquil right before she gets on the flight. It puts me to sleep and that helps!! |

try phenergan its an anti-histamine that has strong sedative effects. It is sold over the counter and 30-40Mg's usually gives people a sound sleep the night before.
Read about it first as it does have side effects like all drugs. she should not drive while taking them.
I take them 'occasionally' if work has been manic and I need to get some sleep.
All you have to say is that they are for my hay fever and that I have taken them before. Cost about £4.00 from most chemists |

An over-the-counter remedy that works wonders is Dramamine.
It's like a legal valium. Good luck! :o) |

Ok, if she is this scared, maybe next time you should reconsider paying for a flight out or making any travel plans with her that include a plane.
It's mind over matter, and there is nothing anybody else, outside of her, can do to relieve a pathological fear of flying.
We hang out with a husband and wife that love to travel, but she will not get on a plane. truthfully, this is a strain on the relationship, because they are both at the age where they can start doing this sort of thing with little concern for any kids at home or animals to tend to. |

the best thing to do is to take something to calm her down...maybe talk to her doc before you all leave..if you don't have time, go to the store and get her some benedryl...this will help her relax and maybe even sleep...
this is from experience, i am a parent of a cheerleader and we all had to fly to Florida for a competition and all the girls were scared...i gave most of them benedryl and it helped and put most of them to sleep |
