You want the real truth?
The truth that nobody in the airline industry will ever admit to??
They don't want you to have your phone on because they don't want you to be communicating with someone who's not on the plane in the event something goes wrong.
Think about it....
The only times they actually walk around and check for people with phones on is during take-off and landing. Take-off and landing is also when there's the greatest chance for something to go wrong.
Could you imagine the press if someone was able to record a phone conversation with a person experiencing a plane crash???
It would end-up on You-Tube and everyone in the world would play it over and over.
The audio recording would be so terrifying that ticket sales would nose-dive. People would elect to drive instead of flying whenever possible.
I know... sounds like crazy conspiracy non-sense....
I fly internationally all the time for business.
The majority of KLM (Royal Dutch Airlines) larger planes now have WiFi hot-spots in them. You can use your laptop and other wireless devices to connect to the internet through these hot-spots during the flight! And WiFi is on the same 2.4GHz band as many cell phones.
But for take-off and landing they still ask that all electronic devices be turned off...
I don't know...
I just find it incredibly hard to believe that a multimillion dollar aircraft designed to fly across oceans 40,000 feet in the air at speeds that boggle the mind could be taken down by a cell phone.
Forget the fact that there are cell-phone towers normally located in close proximity to every airport in the world (could you imagine NOT getting a signal at an airport?).
Forget the fact that every airport also has large communication antennae towers broadcasting strong RF signals in every direction so they can communicate with the very aircraft you are flying on.
Forget the fact that every airport has a high-power search radar which paints landing and launching aircraft with kilowatts of high frequency radar energy.
Because none of these things compare to the awesome destructive power of a text message sent from a Motorola RAZR!!!
ROFLMAO! |

sends waves through the airs that can tamper with important messages being sent from afar to the plane?? I dont know good question. |

like the signal that the cell give out messes with the radar. at least that's what would make sense to me. Maybe like the interference could mess with the communication. |

The Jonas Brothers are pathetic.

disrupts radio signals |

It messes with the landing gears and intercepts the radio transmissions but only if too many electronics are on so your cell phone shouldn't of done anything just double check that it is off! |

Honestly nothing. They say it MIGHT do something to the radar and stuff, but it doesn't. You know how many people tape the plane taking off from inside and you're not suppose to do that either. |

It could interfere with the navigation sistem. Pilots are trained for emergency situations but why put everyone at risk. |
|

SHAKE IT!

They say it might interfere with the radar but I don't really know because i always use my phone...lol |

nothing it was on mythbusters |

I've wondered this too, one time I left my nintendo on the whole and didn't even notice anything.. |

That amazingg chickk(:

well my mom never turns her phone off in an airplane, and nothing happens. |

The Mythbuster tv show did a program on this. They found that there was no interference with the plane's electronics. |

Absolutely nothing. They just try to scare us about the waves coming out of our phones affecting the cockpit instruments. It is but a bunch of hogwash. Don't worry about it. Worry about seeing other passengers using their cell phone while chanting Allah Akbar!!! |

The Perfect Sonnet.

I've heard that it's just a myth.
I don't think it will affect the flight if you leave your phone on.
I could be wrong... I'm just as curious as you are. |
