The waste is held in tanks on the plane. When it gets to its destination it is met by a special truck that drains the tank and refills the system with liquid need to flush the toilets.
The truck is emptied into a sewerage inlet at the airport, and it goes to a sewage treatment facility, just like your sewage at home.
I used to do this when I worked for United Airlines.
Sir Richard is dead wrong in his answer. There is no way for a B-747, or any other aircraft to dump their waste at any time. The plumbing on the aircraft does not allow for this. It is a physical impossibliliy.

its a chemical toilet they use. Waste is stored until it can be cleaned out.

One of the jobs they do when turning a plane round is to pump out the soil tanks.

It's stored in a Cess tank on board. After landing it's pumped into what is usually called a "Honey Wagon" and disposed of in much the same way as your waste at home.

It stays on the plane, it goes into a cess tank and emptied at the other end............I used to live on a boat and it is the same it goes into a tank and you get it emptied when necessary at pump out points......

It depends on where they are flying. If it's over land they have to keep it until landing, but if it's over the ocean they are allowed to flush it if far enough away from land. That's why you should always keep in radio contact if you're on a ship or yacht or something and wear a life raft. The QE2 got bombed with a Russian 747's waste once and there was a lot of trouble about it.
