You have a reserve parachute and if that one doesn't work you're dead. |

If you jumped only 20 ft off the ground, then maybe you can still be alive.
But often, very very very very rare (pretty much impossible) to get out of this kind of situation.
Even if bunch of trees or something catches your fall, the body is going to face a lot of trauma and shock. |

if your parachute don't open, don't worry. however, if it doesn't open you doesn't have long to live. |

#1....Pray that you are dreaming
#2....Hopefully the plane is still on the ground, and since it's probably a prop job there's a good chance you wouldn't get hurt from the fall.
#3....Hope that you have an emergency chute
#4....If #1 thru #3 don't apply, then bend over and kiss your butt goodbye
#5...I almost forgot...if it's over the water and you enter perfectly perpendicular, and as soon as you enter the water you quickly bend your body to begin your ascent, you could possibly survive, but make sure your hands are together and break the surface of the water before your head gets there. |

U dont if there's no "safety shoot". All parachute's have a "safety shoot".
Hope you have a "Living Will" if neither open. :) |

The first point in all of this is that you aren't getting into a plane, normally, to be doing parachuting without a reserve chute. If that fails, then you will probably die somewhere in the fall, so the contact with hard earth wouldn't be felt anyway. Your body would bounce 1, maybe 2 times, crushing most of your bones.
From your training, if the main chute fails, you need to jettison it. There are most likely releases to release the chute, and then you would release the backup, emergency chute. Don't release the emergency chute until clear of the failed main chute since the main chute could interfere with the deployment of the emergency chute. |

There's like a one in a million chance you will live depending on where you land and what you land on but nothing you can do about it, probably just bend over and kiss your a** goodbye then say 3 hail mary's or whatevs. |

How do you get out of what? If you have a secondary chute i imagine you would have to cut away the first shoot. Your shoot might have a breakaway chorde or device that deploys when you deploy the second chute. If you don't have a secondary chute i don't think you would want to get out of it. The failed chute at least gives some resistance and slows you down a little. Plus maybe it will get tangle in some wires or tree on the way down and prevent you from hitting the ground. Your best bet would be to aim for a tree or bush. I saw a video of an Australian sky diver whose chute failed and he landed in a bush and lived. He was pretty beaten up but alive. |

First you hope that the plane is still on the ground. If not you try bending over and kiss you tush good buy baby because your dead. But I would hope that you are jumping with a group and that someone in the group has enough experience to be able to help you out. it allways nice to have a second chute and some people only jump with chutes that they themself packed. If all else fails goto bend over and kiss |

When making an intentional parachute jump you are required by the FAA to bring one more parachute with you than you plan on using. For most skydives that means you have your main parachute and your reserve.
The main parachute is attached to the harness by a three ring release system. If the main parachute malfunctions or fails to open you pull a cut away cable that will detach the malfunctioning main from the container. There reserve parachute is activated by pulling the reserve rip cord.
I have about 300 skydives and I have had one cut away. May main parachute opened up and was damaged. I looked at the canopy over my head and new that I could not safely fly or land that canopy so I pulled the cutaway handle, went back into free fall and pulled the reserve ripcord and was under my reserve 400 feet later.
the main parachutes are packed by either a FAA Rigger, a person under the direct supervision of a FAA Rigger or the parachutist who will by jumping the canopy. The reserve is packed only by a FAA Rigger or someone under the direct supervision of a FAA Rigger. The packing methods for the main allow for slower more comfortable openings but can resulting in malfunctions form time to time. The reserve is packed in a way that will open very fast and works 99.9999% of the time.
A pilot emergency rig is packed by a FAA Rigger an has a round parachute in it whereas the skydiving rigs have square canopies for the main and reserve. A round parachute is extremely reliable and is activated by the pilot by pulling the ripcord or by a static line.
There are a few websites you need to check out to get good info on skydiving.
http://www.uspa.org is the website of the United States Parachute Association, the governing body for sport parachuting in the United States. There is a list of member dropzones on the website along with all sorts of great info on the sport.
The official site for the British Parachute Association is: http://www.bpa.org.uk/links.htm
The official site for the Canadian Parachute Association is: http://www.cspa.ca/
The official site for the Australian Parachute Federation is: http://www.apf.asn.au/
http://www.dropzone.com is another great resource for everything about skydiving, including dropzones in the United States and the rest of the world, and some BASE too.
http://www.bigairsportz.com is the web site for Brian Germain, one of the best people on the planet to get information on canopy flight from.
http://www.skydiveradio.com is just fun and a good place to feel like you’re at the drop zone when you can’t physically be there.
http://www.azarsenal.com/ is the website for the top vertical relative work team right now. Arizona Arsenal won the 2007 USA Nationals.
If you’re not sure about skydiving but want to fly you should look at the vertical wind tunnels. http://www.skyventure.com/ is the website for skyventure which operates many tunnels in the United States, Europe and Asia. I love flying in the tunnel. I don’t do it very much, I’d rather spend my money on skydives, but it is a great place to learn, work on my flying skills and just have a lot of fun!
Make sure that you contact the drop zone you want to jump at directly. There are a few scams out there, one of which is 1800skyride. They will take your money and send you to any dropzone they want too but only about three dz’s in the country except skyride tickets. So please, please, please contact the dropzone directly.
The tandem is a great jump. I’d get video too. I made one tandem in June of 2005. In August of 2005 I came back to start student training (good info about student training at uspa.org) and got my license. I’ve been jumping as much as I can and have a few hundred jumps. I have earned the USPA Coach Rating and plan to continue to jump for fun and help teach others how to fly and be safe in the air. There is nothing better than flying your body through the sky with your friends. The canopy is a lot of fun to fly too. It only gets better and better. Every weekend seems to be more fun than the one before. You will get into the sport for the rush, but you stay because of the people. I love this sport and I sincerely hope that you’ll become a full time skydiver and I’ll be able to make some jumps with you at a boogie!
