It is the place where The FIRST HUMANS ever set foot on a planetary body outside of our own Dear Mother Earth--The credit for this goes of course to those brave hearts Commander Neil Armstrong and Edwin Buzz Aldrin who set mankinds' first foot prints on Lunar soil ( what A proud moment indeed for NASA,The American People and The rest of Mankind

Sad Indeed poor Michael Collins missed The Roll Of Honour by a whisker but of course he stayed at the controls of the Lunar Module , high above The Moon and that is what brought all OUR THREE HEROES back home to an earth shattering Welcome. It's an area on the surface of the moon. It's called that because when it was discovered, (before excellent telescopes), the moon looked like it had dried-up seabeds on it's surface. One of these was named the "sea of tranquility".

The moon has craters and basins and they have names.... One of them happens to be Sea of Tranquility or Mare Tranquillitatis.

In 1965, the Ranger 8 spacecraft crashed in Mare Tranquillitatis, after successfully transmitting 7,137 photographs of the moon in the final 23 minutes of its mission.
