What is a better airline for international travel - Northwest airlines or Cathay Pacific?

based on your personal experience and opinion, which airline is better or which one would you choose? Northwest or Cathay?

Cathay Pacific, by a mile. I have to fly to Asia about 6 or 7 times a year for the past 6 years, I've flown many of the airlines that fly to Asia, inc. Northwest, and once I flew Cathay, I made them my airline of choice. Go to www.airlinequality.com, it's the world's largest passenger opinion poll and rating service for airlines. They give only four airlines in the world a five-star rating, Cathay is one them, Northwest gets three stars. If you're able to fly 1st or business class, you will be pampered like never before on an airline. Even economy has good food, and one of the best in-flight entertainment systems in the air. Given the choice, I would choose Cathay everytime.

I would choose Northwest. I had problems with Cathay Pacific before. I missed my connection because of delay (both legs on Cathay), they wanted me to wait hours for the next flight. I politely asked if they would put me on another airline that was departing soon. The lady pointed to my ticket and yelled, "Can't you read?! It says nonendorsable! Look! You can't read?!" She was so abusive. I know all airline agents make mistakes, but that crazy lady from Cathay Pacific went too far. Besides, they don't give you miles that you can use.

Both are good, but I would say Northwest.

If I had to choose over a US airline or another I would definately fly with the other. US airlines have the worst reputation around the world and NorthWest the worst of them, infact they are widely known in the industry as "NorthWorst". Cathay Pacific is one of the leading airlines of the world and constantly win awards for service, quite often for best cabin staff. They are a member of the One World alliance and are based in HongKong. They're a 5 star airline and some people now consider them better than Singapore Airlines.

I used Northwest when I flew to France last summer, and there were no problems. And I don't fly much, but I've never even heard of Cathay Pacific. I'd say go with Northwest, it's popular for a reason.

Where are you flying to?

i have flown northwest and loved it. it is great service and the best part is that they always have enough blankets and pillows :)

Cathay is generally ranked much higher than NW. It really depends on where you are going and what class of service. NW probably services more places, but I think Cathay has better luxuries in their fleet (like TIVO like selection of 60 movies or so on some planes).

Cathay business is pretty nice. Very big chairs that go back pretty far. I still like flat beds of BA and Virgin, but Cathay is pretty good.

Check out http://www.flyertalk.com for more info on both airlines. Also check out http://www.seatguru.com for information on the quality of seats (how far back they go, width, etc) of both airlines.
