I'm scared of planes, but if I get really involved in a book, I'm there before I know it!!
Hope that helps!!

I know it may sound strange but books on CD, audiobooks do a great job of distracting you. Be sure that it's something particularly interesting to you and for the most part you will be engrossed in it enough that the flight will "fly" by.
Heck, if anything it might be so boring that you fall asleep, another good tactic. |

If you like reading, bring along your favourite book or one that you're already reading. If you get into a story enough, you can forget pretty much any surrounding.
Sleeping's also a good option, if you're not too scared to fall asleep! Bring along a blanket and pillow in your carry-on, and that should help.
The in-flight movie's always an option as well. |

Educate yourself on flight so that you no longer fear it. It is much safer than the train, bus, or driving in a car. Why the bumps? Learn about turbulence and it's causes. It's really nothing to fear. More like going over waves with a boat. |

It depends but something that you enjoy doing and that engages you is what to look for. Sudoku? Music? Playboy Mag (just kidding), gameboy, a intense novel (already started)? What gets you engaged; what are your hobbies? |

WOW! Great answers guys! I have more of the same. Reading about a subject you really like, get your headphones on and listen to music, or a book. Anything that will keep your mind busy. I do crossword puzzles.
I really liked the advice to learn about the airplane, what makes it work, what makes a flight "bumpy", that's a great idea, you should do that in addition to a book or music.
You should also let the flight attendant or person next to you know you are afraid of flying. It's comforting to talk to someone and not feel "alone", even though the plane is full of people. |

My first thought was to take something for motion sickness. I used to have to take a pill... can't remember the name of it (starts with a "D" I think) It used to help me A LOT!!!
My second thought would be to take something with you that you enjoy doing... reading-book, crocheting-start a blanket, internet browsing-laptop, etc. Talking with others around you on the plane helps a lot too!! |

Chewing gum, watching their cheap movies. Turning your fear of flying into a fear of bankruptcy when you buy their overpriced peanuts. |
