If you apply for a Delta SkyMiles American Express card (Gold), then they will give you around 20,000 miles after your first purchase and you get a free companion ticket. The $85 annual fee is also waived the first year.

One of the best I've come across is the Capital One No Hassle Miles Ultra for Professionals. You can net nearly 2% rewards (2 miles per dollar spent) on all spending good on any airline. Another good one is the AmEx Blue Sky card which pays 1.33% ($100 for $7500 in spending) on all spending and the rewards are good for flights, hotels, rentals, etc.

Chase United Mileage Plus is pretty good. 1 dollar gets you 1 mile and 25k gets you a free round trip ticket within the US (excluding Hawaii) You can also use your miles to get stuff (like HDTV, Camcorders, Digital camera, Movado watches etc..) and use your miles to fly with other airlines in the Star Alliance Airline network (the network that United is in) Redeeming with United is easy too (i've redeemed before) Capital One is pretty good too.

I've heard that American Express is complicated and its not that easy to redeem with them, so dont use them. Also, dont use that Delta skymiles thing because Delta is horrible.
