I have never heard anyone asking to be tipped!! If you asked me for a tip, I would give you this tip "don't be rude and asking for tips". You could get fired for this one, wheelchair bound or not! |

Honestly tips aren't something you are supposed to ask for it is just supposed to be given as a thank you for your service unless you are a waiter and you make the typical pay of $2.13 an hour. If you are supposed to be tipped then the airline should put up a sign stating that gratuity is due upon service. |

I have never heard of those wheelchair agents at airports getting tips. I think you're just thinking you should get more than you deserve.
"Selfish passenger" you say? Gimme a break!!! They're in a wheelchair, you're not, and you're complaining that they're not giving you a tip. Get a clue and stop being so greedy!!!!!!!!!! I'm glad he embarassed you in front of many people. |

there is NO tactful way to ask for a tip. A tip is a gift and not an entitlement. You just need to strive to do a tip worthy job. |

you should NEVER EVER ask for a tip. If you do you should be reported and fired. People should tip you if you are prompt and do your job correctly. With the cost we pay the airlines most people may assume you make enough money. |

Most people think that wheelchair help is somehow part of airline or airport service for passengers. This is why few bother to tip. Asking for a tip would be pushy and rude. Accept the fact that this is one profession where tipping is not automatic. |

I'd become a waiter. I don't think you can ask people for tips when they feel like your career doesn't require them. |

People I know who have had to use wheelchair service at the airport ALWAYS tip. They can't always tip with the right currency of that country, but they always have tip money ready. And of course the service is excellent! The problem, as you can see from the responses here, is that most people don't know you're supposed to tip wheelchair handlers. People usually remember to tip bellmen and taxi drivers. You take the baggage from the carousel for the passenger and handle the baggage cart too, don't you? And get them through security checkpoints and immigration going through the special fast lines?
However, asking for tip is very awkward. Sorry, not much you can do until people catch on. |

If you want a tip, why don't you become a waiter. You should just be happy that you're doing a job that helps others in need. I would never in a million years expect to have to tip someone who helps me with a wheelchair. That's a service that the airports provide, not a service that's supposed to give you extra shopping money. |

Unfortunately most employers frown on their employees outright asking for tips. Even if tips are a big part of the job, like waiters or pizza deliverers.
Maybe while you are wheeling them you can casually tell a story about your sick kid or sick cat, maybe they will get the hint. |

You could have a sign made that says "Tips great fully appreciated"..or something like that. Maybe have a button-pin on your shirt that says that. To outright ask for a tip is really quite rude and people will feel uncomfortable with that. Good luck! |
