Keep it Real

What is the difference between a chartered flight and a scheduled flight ?

Penfold
A scheduled flight is a flight that conforms to a timetable (similar to a bus or train). It has a specific departure time from Airport A. It has a scheduled arrival time at Airpot B. It does not matter how regularly or frequently the flight travels between the two airports. The fact that it has to depart and arrive at specified times implies it is a scheduled, timetabled flight.

A charter flight is a plane that has been hired to fly a between two locations regardless of departure or arrival time. It is assumed the plane has been hired for a flight but can depart sometime after it has been hired.

For holidays for the mass public, an airline still has to fly a scheduled flight regardless of te number of passengers. A holiday company will hire charter flights when they have sufficient passengers to financially justify the flight.

A chartered flight is specially arranged for a certain day and time and will only fly if fully or mostly fully booked for example, people going to the same holiday resorts. A scheduled flight will run same day, same time, however many people are on board.

A scheduled flight would fly at specific times and usually has a whole load of passengers on board. A charter flight is usually a private flight booked by the passenger(s) and flys when the passenger wants to. Biggest difference is the price - chartered flights are much more expensive.

Scheduled flights have definite timetables and are by the company, e.g. BA, Monarch etc. Charters are just what it says - planes chartered or hired by holiday companies to fly their own passengers. Scheduled flights are far more reliable on timetables.

A chartered flight is a PRIVATE plane that a person or company hires to fly them to a specific destinationat a specific time. Only the people who hired it may fly on it. A scheduled flight is on a public carrier..an airline that has regularly scheduled flights to certain places and sells tickets to the public to fly on their planes.

mobilemark
well a schedule flight is same as a commercial flight
their flights are "scheduled" to fly at a certain time from point a to point b
a charter flight is an unscheduled flight from point a to point
b

executioner_bolan
Chartered are specially booked usually by one individual or group JUST for that group or individual for a specific destination.
Scheduled is any regular flight that follows an established flight plan regularly as many airlines do.
