Well, I HATE to fly, so every flight is very memorable to me. One flight however had extremely bad turbulance. The kind where drinks and purses and stuff were flying through the air. I basically thought I was going to die and gripped the armrests so tight for that flight that my fingeres ached the whole next day. It ticked me off that the flight attendants continued to stand and smile and assure everyone that everything was okay. I know that it is their job to say that even if they know that we are all going to die.

Once, when I was traveling home from Europe, the first Gulf War started. All of our flights were cancelled, and it was very hard to get home. All of the airports were closing because of it. I remember that when our plane took off from Frankfurt we were the last plane out before they closed completely, and we watched the runway lights go out below us as we took off. It was weird.

I've got several good and bad memories while flying, but one that stands out is when I was flying from Tokyo to Malaysia and had fallen asleep. I happened to wake up and look out the window. It was the most beautiful view of Mt Fuji peaking above the clouds. I could not see the base at all or the ground anywhere because of all the clouds, but the summit was soaring above all that. I scrambled for my camera and got a couple of pictures before it was out of sight.

The plane flew right through a lightning storm. It was awesome to be right next to those bolts and to see more of the flashes across the sky, at the same level as where I was sitting.
