What keeps an airplane and rocket in the air?

I'm sure it has something to do with the shape of both aircrafts, wind pressure, etc, but I don't understand the entire concept. Thanks

Planes and rockets stay in the air for different reasons. In a plane, the concept is to lower air pressure on the top side of the wing which causes lift. In a rocket, you're using the force of the rocket propellant to overcome gravity.

sugartopone
the force that makes the object plane, rocket, balloon or anything lighter than the air that it is in.
It can be static as a gas in a balloon or active as kerosene burning in a jet engine.
hope this helps

if you look at the cross- section of the wing you would see that the air that strikes the leading edge of the air foil has two ways to go. Either over the top or along the bottom. The time it takes for the air that goes over the top is the same time for the length of the bottom to reach the trailing edge. However the distance along the top is greater. This causes a higher pressure under the airfoil to give it lift.
The rocket is propulsion only, my guess.

On a plane, the shape of the wing speeds up air going over the wing, decreasing the pressure on that surface, creating lift.

There are definitions that include the negative pressure on the top of the wing, and the postiive pressure below the wing, but the simplest description is to say the engines are pulling/pushing the aircraft overcome the gravity that is pulling it down.

The design of the plane wing compresses the air and makes it denser under the wing. So..the plane is actually riding on an almost solid object. This creates lift. The faster the plane goes, the more compact the air and therefore the less wing area you need to maintain lift.

Penguin
Propulsion is the ticket!

cheyguy2308
a combination of speed and then using the air flow when they get up there

jet propulsion

the simplest defintion is the thrust pushing the vehicle is more than the drag pulling the vehicle down.
