What kills them when the plane hits the ground?

If it just drops out of the sky at 30k feet, the sudden impact and explosion will instantly kill

HelpME!
you can also get scared to death.... Anything can kill you in an air crash. You have about a 1 and 1000 chance of surviving an air crash.

mizzouswm
what, do you mean other than the impact, impending fire, blunt force trauma, or flying debris?

either exploding gas or the pure force of the impact of a 100 ton piece of metal falling from 30,000 feet above the earth.

I have done a school project on this and I found some very interesting results.

In an 'insurvivable crash', the main cause of death is the force of impact, objects hitting the person or the sudden halt. If you sit at the back of the aircraft, the halt is cushoned by the rest of the aircraft. People sitting in the front may experiance a stop of over 100 G (100 times their boddy weight) and that kills them. People in the back have a more survivable G force rate, but that doesnt mean its always safer in the back.

If the crash is deemed 'survivable', then its generally the subsequent fire and sometimes the factors mentioned above (but less likeley to happen). When I did research on seatbelts, some reports said that many passengers were found burnt out in their seats, becasue they did not know how to take the seatbelt off properly. witnesses who have survived a crash said that they were trying to take them off like car seat belts because of the panic.

If the crash doesn't kill them first, the toxic fumes from the burning interior of the plane is what the NTSB says is the main cause of death to people who were, not killed in the crash
