Tubes of paint aren't the greatest thing to bring on a plane. They might burst due to the pressure in the air, and ruin everything in your bag. Due to the law put in place several years ago, you can't bring any fluids onto the plane on your carry-on unless each is in a 3.5 oz bottle and fits nicely into a quart-sized bag. However, you are allowed to bring as much liquid as you want in the bag that you check in before you fly (it gets stored at the bottom of the plane but you don't get access to it until after you land). That is, as long as these liquids aren't harmful.
My advice: Simply bring a larger suitcase to check in with before you fly. Put your paint tubes in the suitcase, each in separate (small) bags, all contained in one huge bag (that way, you know where everything is, and if something leaks, you can salvage it because it won't be in contact with other paints). Paint brushes and other equipment would be best stored in the suitcase. Just be wary of this: If your suitcase is too heavy, you may be asked to pay an additional handling charge (normally the handling charge is free with your ticket). This charge may range from $10 - $30, probably not more.
Good luck at art school! |

If it is in a sealed plastic bag and the containers have less than 3 oz in them, yes, you can bring them. But then again, is it flammable??? You might just play it safe and pack the paint. |

Best thing to do is to call the airport. If I had to guess with my experiences, they'd treat it like toothpaste, which is a no-no.
See if you're allowed to bring it sealed or something. |

You can bring non-flammable paint with you if it is in 3oz or smaller containers in your 3-1-1 baggie. Otherwise, it will need to be checked. Flammable paints cannot be checked or carried on the plane. |

i should think not as they can be potentally dangerous I know that you can't take paint {decorating paint}on buses and i think the same thing applys to art paint either cheack with a travel agent or prepare to take some extra cash and hope you can get what you need in the big apple |

Anything liquid over 3 oz has to be checked. So you can bring your paints, but they would have to be packed in your checked luggage. Everything you carry on has to fit in a quart sized ziploc bag, and has to actually be in one, separate from your carryon luggage when you go through security. Congratulations on art school! |

You will not be able to, the fluid restrictions are still very high, they will insist you leave them at the airport prior to passport control otherwise. |

the limit for liquids (and paint does count as a liquid) is three ounce containers.... anything smaller than three ounces is fine...
I fly a lot... and whenever there's a large number of things that are going to be difficult to bring on the plane, i just mail them ahead of time to my new address at my destination... UPS has no restrictions like the airport... so just make a small box of all your paints and mail it tomorrow... it takes 2-3 days for it to arrive, so it'll probably be there waiting for you when you arrive! |

The following rules apply to all liquids, gels, and aerosols carried through security checkpoints.
All liquids, gels and aerosols must be in three-ounce or smaller containers. Larger containers that are half-full or toothpaste tubes rolled up are not allowed. Each container must be three ounces or smaller.
All liquids, gels and aerosols must be placed in a single, quart-size, zip-top, clear plastic bag. Gallon size bags or bags that are not zip-top such as fold-over sandwich bags are not allowed. Each traveler can use only one, quart-size, zip-top, clear plastic bag.
Each traveler must remove their quart-sized plastic, zip-top bag from their carry-on and place it in a bin or on the conveyor belt for X-ray screening. X-raying separately will allow TSA security officers to more easily examine the declared items.
There are exceptions for baby formula, breast milk, and other essential liquids, gels, and aerosols, including prescription and over-the-counter medicines (see details below).
Please keep in mind that these rules were developed after extensive research and understanding of current threats. They are intended to help air travelers bring essential toiletries and other liquids, gels and aerosols for short trips. If you need larger amounts of liquids, gels and aerosols such as toothpaste or shampoo, please place them in your luggage and check them with your airline. |

You CANNOT bring ANY kind of liquid that's more than 100 ml or somethin' like that cuz it has been discovered that some people use to put explosive stuff in it. You may not even bring the empty bottle tube or whatsoever, The girl above me is wrong cuz i just flew on a plane and the people will just throw the liquid stuff away. Do you think they rally have time to check what's in it? I mean SERIOUSLY! |

Don't take anything on a plane, including yourself!
This security issue was dealt with when they (finally)
fixed it so psychos and terrorists couldn't just walk up
and shove their way into the cockpit--yet they're still
treating the flying public like a bunch of guilty-until-proved
innocent cold-war era eastern-euro-peons.
That needs to stop, and the only way it's going to is
if people refuse to fly on account of it.
Now, there are some places people travel where there hardly
is any option, but you could take the bus. Take the bus,
don't reward these air-nazis. They started keeping people
from taking their guns on-board airliners back when there
was an outbreak of idiots skyjacking planes to Cuba.
If they hadn't done that and instead had encouraged people
to take their guns when they flew and use them to kill
skyjackers in self-defense, then maybe the 9/11 skyjackers
could have got a few cases of instant lead-poisoning instead of
a fair measure of success.
This country used to be the home of the brave and land
of the free. Now it's the home of the wimps and the
land of the cowards.
Take the bus, send the airline you were going to fly
on a photo-copy of your bus ticket receipt and
tell them why the bus company got your
money instead of the air-nazis.
I really think the terrorists probably got the skyjacking
bug out of their bustles when they found out that even
one airliner full of un-armed U.S. citizens could prevent
them from obtaining their goal with a little gumption. I mean,
if you're going to die, might as well die on your feet instead
of on your knees.
Better yet, don't go to New York for school at all. Don't take your
money there--get your money back and enroll in school in some
state where the activities of a far-too-influential minority did
NOT precipitate the 9/11 terror attack. It's no coincidence
that was the centerpiece of that attack or that the same target
had been attacked by the same people before.
If I could I'd crate NYC up and ship it off to zionist-occupied
Palestine. Believe me, nobody would even miss it. |
