The best view...
If you like see the wing's mechanisms in action and the view below, I say sit behind the wing... approximately row 17 or back. This is for an E-190 on Jet Blue. The seat row numbers may vary from company to company.
If you don't care about that type of stuff, sit forward of the wing around row 7 or forward. Easier to get off the plane when you're closer to the exit.
Safest seat...
by only the smallest fraction, is in the back of the plane.
That's because when a plane crash lands, the back part of the plane usually breaks off, while wing with the fuel continues on with the rest of the airplane. That's assuming the pilot is able to attempt a landing.
JFK to IAD...
sitting on the right side you'll see more land, while sitting on the left you may get a mixture of land and water. |

The Window not over the wing(those seats are cheaper).
If you are flying west get the right side of the plane.East left side, then you don't have the sun in your eyes.
The cockpit has the largest windows and best view.
Also if you know the route you may pick your side to see more of the city during take-off and landing.
Fly during the day during good weather (good luck scheduling that) then you can see more.
If the flight isn't full and the flight attendent isn't busy ask if their might be a better spot (tell them it's your first time flying). They may even upgrade you. Flight attendents aren't all nice, though.
You might be able to bring binoculars too, if it isn't forbidden these days.
Happy flying. |

I'm not sure about the safest seat on a plane but the window seats (not next to the wing) give you an amazing view, especially if you've never been on a plane before.
Are you flying during daylight hours? I like both day and night flights. During the day the clouds look like you could reach out and touch them and at night the city lights put on an amazing display. |

I think the safest seat is over the wing section or that's what I've been told. |

The best seat is the one unobstructed by the wings. Closer to the tail is better because statistically more people in the back of planes survive crashes. Try to be near an emergency exit!
The attached link also lets you read ratings given by actual passengers of this type of airplane! |

I've flown over 300,000 miles and I like row 7, window...it's usually in front of the wing... |

Safest - no real answer.
Best view - really depends on the plane. Don't sit over the wing or in the rows right behind it. Don't sit in the very back on the planes that have jet engines attached to the back of the plane. Of course the window seat is best. Generally I try to get the front of the plane, however the prop plane I usually fly on, I like it in the back, the prop doesn't get in the way. |

I think towards the tail because if it goes down it usually goes nose first. If it blows up it does matter where you sit.
If you sit over the wings they block part of the view. |

Best seat? for view, window but depedending on where are you flying so you can enjoy the city/place you want to see.
If you go to the bathroom a lot, take the aisle better.
Safest.. to me. from the middle and back. but depends on the accident. =) |

Well, a window seat that's not exactly over the wing has the best view. The wing will obstruct your view if you're right over it. As for the safest, there is no safest, it's pretty much all the same. Some say over the wing, some say in the tail is the safest, but who knows? |

I heard seats in the middle are the best....if you are in a row of like 3 seats beside each other, the middle one is safest...i know that sounds weird but you just have to resist the temptation to get the window seat, if safety is your number 1 priority.
don't be nervous. i know that is almost impossible to ask, but it really helps. chew some gum, read a magazine...do something. |

Best view, depends on the aircraft. Most people prefer the front of the aircraft. Of course a window will have the best view as some others have covered.
Safest seat? Air travel is the safest mode of transportation. I'd say, safest seat is on a commercial aircraft and NOT in your person vehicle. Do you have a mechanic readily available for any issue that may come up? Do you have a set guidelines on what it means to depart or stay and get that item repaired. No, not in your personal vehicle. It is way too risky for an airline to let a broken airplane depart, not only do they lose a million dollar aircraft, they lose lives... and that's aweful. So, take a deep breath and enjoy the flight.
Don't get yourself too worked up over the seat. If you find yourself unable to get the "perfect" seat it's not the end of the world. |
