What should I do if my flight is canceled due to weather?

My flight out of Myrtle Beach back to NY with Spirit Airlines was canceled due to the snow/ice. My flight was supposed to be tonight at 8:25PM. There's a flight out of Myrtle Beach at 9:25AM tomorrow, but they told me that I have to take the 8:25PM tomorrow if I don't want to pay. According to one site I read, it said that most airlines will try to get you on the next available flight. Should I dispute this with them, and how?

** I arrived 40 mins prior to departure on my way down to Myrtle Beach, and they made me rebook my flight for $70. After looking at their website, it says that you have to be at the terminal 30 mins. prior. Should I use this in my dispute for an earlier flight out of Myrtle Beach?

I'm already planning on disputing these charges with my credit card company, because my whole experience with this airline was a complete mess.

You should try to dispute....... with my airline I think the check in agents put passengers on the next available flight, but in some cases especially during storms, you may people stand by on the next available flight as the airlines don't look at weather delays the same way as if they bump you because the flight is oversold.

good luck

=)

Bad weather condition is a fortuitous event and a valid reason for flight cancellation exempting the carrier from liability.

Just take the 8:25pm tomorrow night. The 9:25am is probably full by now anyway, so it can't be helped. In the meantime, call the airline and ask to speak to a supervisor about the $70 charge. Don't go yelling at the agents at the airport. When you call, make it known that you paid the $70 because you needed to be booked on something, but that you believe they should refund it to your credit card.

?
I think after the JetBlue fiasco, a lot of airlines are trying to "play it safe" with cancelling flights way before a storm hits. I know Jet Blue has a "bill of rights" for passengers but are probably the only airline that does.

Trust me, from here in NYC the weather is THAT bad. Even if you were able to book an earlier flight somehow, you will be delayed up the wazoo!

Hate to say it, but your best bet is to stick it out with your carrier...call them back repeatedly to see what flight you can get.

No one can control mother nature! Be patient and try to get on the next available flight to your destination. Sometimes that may mean going standby , or purchasing another ticket on your airline or another airline. All airlines will do their best to get you where you need to go. Just remeber you are not the only one affected by bad weather. IT tends to have a ripple affect. Bad weather affects airplanes, flight crews, customers, airports, air traffic, hotels and rental transportation all over the world. Nothing is guarenteed. Be sure to ask questions and always read the fine print in the rules and regulations of the travel industry. Sometimes you just have to go with the flow.

the best thing i could think of is go rent a hotel and try the next day or go to a relative or friends house, if they live in that area

The bad thing about cancelled flight due to weather is you don't automatically get the next flight out. The key words"available flight" The people on the next flight don't get bumped for you unfortunately.

I would try to get on the 8:25 PM flight. The weather is bad out there and I bet the 9:25 AM flight won't make it out either. It's not very good weather here in NY.

You being charged $70 for being late is another issue. I would dispute that with your credit card not when your trying to get on a plane because yours was cancelled. It won't help anyway.

It's always better to get your way with sugar than vinegar.
Be nice but firm. Don't yell, cuss or be loud. Be persistent.

Good Luck.

Don't fly SpiritAirwas anymore.

I know so nice and um call the airline be as irate as possiable cuz then they'll listen after hearing you scream at them unless its united GOOD LUCK!!! But make sure they have the same policy on their site cuz if they do show it to them and complain!!!
