What should I do on the plane ride to Hawaii?

Bring travel books and read what to do and maps of driving. Trust me, the islands (except Oahu) have very few main roads with a ton of people driving on them. If you study the maps, you can find the shortcuts the locals use and save time. OR if you have a Garmin, bring that as it will save you many hours of searching for stuff.

On my flight to HI last summer (10 hours), I plotted all of my day's activities to do. I'm usually a "wing it" person, but I wanted to do so much, and I didn't feel like sitting in traffic all damn day. So I plotted my course of things that would keep me going in a straight line rather than back and forth doing things. It was a good call, I spent half the time sitting in the car as my friends who went before me and I was able to do twice as much in half the time.

I would sleep as much as possible so when you arrive, you are ready to visit the beach, go shopping, visit different landmarks, etc. If you are flying from the Mainland in the U.S., Hawaii can be up to 5 or 6 hours behind you. Therefore if you sleep on the flight there, you will not be so tired around 6:00 pm Hawaii time.

The airlines should be showing a movie on the flight there. If the movie does not look that interesting, then read or bring an iPod. Some people like to bring portable DVD players on board.

My plane remedy is getting absolutely no sleep [or as little as possible] the night before and then sleeping the entire plane trip. If that isn't possible get a really interesting book. Take a lap top. Learn how to meditate and then practice on the plane haha. If all else fails resort to the iPod or trying to socialize.

My plane ride to Hawaii took 15 hours. If there are tvs on the plane (especially in the back of the seat in front of you) then that's a good thing. If not, read, listen to music or sleep.
