Winter is the best time. It's super cold in New York, plus all the "snowbirds" are leaving New York and other cold places and are heading to Florida. The worst time to buy tickets is spring and summer when all the snowbirds head back home to New York.
The airline I work for serves the most cities between New York and Florida, so I see this every year. |

Book now, since the recession, almost all companies are lowering fares to accommodate more passengers. Spirit Airlines and Jet Blue Airways are the cheapest airlines that have non-stop flights to JFK. Spirit Airlines only flies to LGA. The total fare round-trip with taxes for one person is $196.19 on www.orbitz.com. Good luck. To book off of www.jetBlue.com the total price for the same itinerary is $189.20. |

It doesnt usually matter when you purchase the tickets, its when you are going. For instance, traveling to NYC for New Years Eve is ridiculous, but going end of February is cheap because its after Valentines and its still frzen there LOL
A good way to get cheaper flights is to book last minute, although there is a chance you will not be going on the days/times you want. So really its up to you
have a great trip! |

Eliminate Spring Break
Holidays (Easter, Memorial Day, etc)
Major Events - Super Bowl etc
try for Tuesday or Thursday departure/arrivals
early morning flights sometimes are cheaper
once you have it narrowed down - Use Yahoo! Travel
to locate a possible flight (or expedia.com)
THEN - pull up that airlines home page and find the same flight
sometimes finds you $5-$15 cheaper tickets
sometimes they have bought a block of seats and
Yahoo or Expedia are cheaper.
all the best |

first of all, if possible stay away from the summer vacations as the prices are highest in that season. Try traveling in seasons of low demand. I think traveling in April, March or February might provide a suitable price. |

I've read in a yahoo article once that airline tickets to the east coast are usually cheapest during the summer because it gets really hot on the east coast you should try searching on websites like expedia.com or travelocity.com even jet blue has really good deals and direct flights to NYC |

you want to go in the fall. take my advice on this, do not fly into jfk. fly into newark, nj. even though jfk is in the actual city, its about 3 hours away in traffic. about an hour without traffic. newark, nj, is about 15 minutes away from downtown, manhattan. flights are usually cheaper from here too, jfk is so busy so there are a lot of delays, and not to mention car rentals. i once priced out a 7 day car rental from alamo at jfk, and an economy car cost $1,000! newark is much cheaper
so lets recap.
1. Go in the Fall, go early in the morning/late at night as well.
2. Get tickets either months in advance, or the week before. I know this is a huge gap, but this is when they give deals. Preferably now, because if there are no deals a week before, you're screwed.
3. Fly into Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) instead of JFK or LaGuardia. Car rentals will be cheaper, cab rides will be the same price though (in ny, a yellow taxi is the same rate to all the major airports, $45). Most of all it saves loads of time.
4. Stay downtown. Most people stay in midtown, and normal hotels there could cost hundreds of dollars.
Good Luck visiting the best city in the world! |
