If you can manage to avoid making the trip memorable for your fellow passangers, it is already a great deal. Kids are bored on planes, food is yucky to most of them, and sitting is paralizing, in particular for kids of the age you mentions. Plane rides of more than 4 hours long are just a pain.
If your kids like to read, that's great, take books. Otherwise, PSPs, Nintendos, anything that will help them while away boring time. Don't count too much on movies on board, they aren't that good, and from back seats most of the time you get only a glimpse... If you have a DVD player, take it along, with a couple of decent new DVD (its worth the investment). Warn ahead the big kids that slipping and mis-behaviour will not be tolerated - boys are sometimes trickier, because they love jumping around and are used to more sports during the day, immobility is very taxing.
Have a great vacation!!! |

Bring crayons and coloring books for the kids to be distracted. Also a portable DVD player with their favorite movies. The most important think is bring gum and crackers for them to chew on when their ears start hurting!!! |

definately pack snacks, it will save you time listening to them whine, save you some money and you will be much happier as many of the flights no longer have any food onboard.
pack games, books, toys, etc.
children's decongestant before flight will help to keep their ears clear for takeoff and landing, helping to avoid painful ear popping and congestion. buy cheap disposable cameras and let them take their own pics of whatever they want to pass the time |

Might as well make the trip educational. I'd take a book of different types of clouds, because they are going to ask questions. A map to show what they are flying over also.
Then there are travel games and coloring books to a game boy. |

Make sure you give then something like Benadryl to make them sleep nothing worse than a Millennium mom who cant control her kid on a flight. Its bad enough to have a dinner ruined by screaming and misbehaving kids but 35,000 feet in the air you're stuck |

Make sure you pack chewing gum. It will help their ears when the air pressure changes |

The better would make them sleep, so they won't get bored or anoyed. Bring children books, their favorite toys that fits in their own back pack and a bottle of water for each child.
Tell them to be patient, because you'll also have to go trough security and waiting areas, which could be even more boring that the flight.
If you can bring a DVD player or Game Boy, or any other electronic distractor. |

I would pack things that they enjoy playing with at home already because flights can be scary for younger kids. Coloring books, puzzles, simple arts and crafts, iPods, and portable DVD players are all good ideas. Bring snacks that they like as well. |

Pack as lightly as possible. If you are going to a warm climate, consider buying light inexpensive clothing when you get there instead of taking everything with you. For God's sake DONT carry a bunch of shoes with you. Take ONE change of clothing apiece in your carry-on and check everything else. I just got back from Ireland and trust me, the people that packed clothing for every possible event were MISERABLE. Don't pack stuff for the kids that you MIGHT use on a single night out at a nice restaurant. You will probably never wear them anyway and most vacation area restaurants expect people to dress casually. You're on vacation after all. Good luck! |

Find their favorite candy to suck on for the take off and landing. This way if they dont want to chew gum they have something they like. Also ask them what they want to do on the plane ride. Everyone is different, and I always liked it best when I was asked what I wanted. I now fly many times a year and love it. |
