Something easy to take off and put on... you will be asked to remove your shoes to pass through security. Think about whether you want to have socks on also.
Since you are going from cold weather to warm weather it is easy to dress in layers and take something off when you reach your destination. Leave some room in your carry on bag for layers that you peel off en route. |

Wear whatever you want. It's a long flight, so you might want to wear whatever shorts and shirt you want to have on in Hawaii, and then wear sweats over them. Take off the sweats before landing. No one cares what you wear on the plane, so it's better to be comfortable and warm enough. You want slip-on shoes for two reasons... one -- you have to take them off to go through security, and two -- you'll want to take them off during the flight, and your feet will swell, so you want something loose and easy to put back on. |

I really enjoy flying and I often myself sitting in an exit row which a responsibility that I do take seriously. In the event of an air crash I am determined to be among one of the people who survives it. The probability of surviving increases with my choice of clothing. I wear natural fibers only . I choose things that will burn off of me rather than melt into me. I don't wear shorts and I dont wear short sleeved shirts. I wear comfortable closed toed shoes that I can run in if need be. |

sandles would be easier to avoid taking other shoes like boot or sneakers off when passing the security check points |

layering is the answer because you are going to be arriving at the airport in detroit when it is cold. You can always take off clothes but cannot add on |

If you can stand the Detroit weather, I'd prepare for the Hawaii weather. I have found that when I travel by plane, I'm always happiest when I get off the plane wearing appropriate clothing.
Check the forecast of your destination. It could be raining or sunny...I think that's the extent of weather in Hawaii. Good luck! |

wear sandals or flip flops on the plane, so you can take your shoes off easyily (and put them back on). Wear lose comfy clothing, soem spa pants and a comfy long sleeved blouse over a tank top or two or a tee is great, so you will stay warm, but you can take off somthing if you are too warm. |

It's a long flight. You don't say what month you will be traveling.
Think comfort for clothes and for shoes something you can slip off easily. You have to take your shoes off to go through security.
Have a great trip. |

I fly from Seattle (where it can be quite cool) to Hawaii frequently. My friend is a flight attendant so I fly for free, but I have to follow a strict dress code-no sandles, no shorts, no jeans, no sleeveless shirts, no spagetti straps.
What I do is layer a tank under a button up shirt and pair them with dress slacks and a pair of ballet style flats. Once I arrive in Hawaii I go to the restroom and change into a pair of crop pants or shorts and take off the button up shirt. The shorts don't take up much room in my carry on, and I don't get too cold on the plane. You may want to take a light weight sweater or wrap with you on the plane since the air conditioning can get a little cold and the blankets on the plane are *nasty* (you really don't want to know what people do under them). |

Since Detriot is cold and Hawaii hot, I guess throw yourself on jeans pants, and running shoes and a T-shirt, but adding a sweater/coat and upon arrival, you set your coat/sweater on the carry-on or in them or something. |

wear some comfortable clothes. Something baggy. For shoes, you might want to wear sandels. Once you arrive to your destination, your feet will be swollen. |
