We over-shot the runway in Honolulu and the wheels touched the water as the pilot pulled up and we all got to see the inside of the back of skulls. I am sure several people needed a change of underwear after that.

We did touch down safely though...

Having to sit next to a lady who puked 4 or 5 times over the course of the 2 and a half hour flight from Cancun to Atlanta. She was puking in barf bags, and the flight was rough, so she wasnt able to just hang out in the bathroom due to the seatbelt sign.

In 1972, when I was 11 years old, I was on an international flight where three of the four engines on the plane failed. The engines failed one at a time. Every time an engine failed, the pilot would announce that "This is nothing to worry about". After the third engine failed, I knew we were in serious trouble and that I could die. I remember having some unusual thoughts at the time. I was perturbed that if I did die, then I was going to be just known as "the eleven year old who died in a plane crash", instead of a complete human being. By the way, I have no fear of flying and I have flown a couple of times since then.

Any of the 3 times I've flown United over the past 5 years. Each time they lost my luggage and it took about a week to get it back, without me being given any information and unable to get through to customer service. Each time I've flown them I've encountered significant delays with no explanation - most likely the airline's fault. I've seen overflowing toilets, vomit in the seat pocket, and worse unsanitary conditions I won't mention. I've literally never encountered a polite United employee. One time, I was waiting to check in for a United flight in Burbank, CA and was told to arrive at the airport an hour before hand. I arrived an hour and 45 minutes before, but since I had to check luggage, I waited in line for an hour and a half, obviously missing my flight. (Several other people missed the same flight for the same reason. They only had a couple of ticket counters staffed and at least a dozen empty ones). I had to wait something like 2 hours in another line to be re-ticketed, only to be rudely told that I would be put on a flight out of LAX 12 hours later and I had to pay for a shuttle to get to LAX, $100 at my own expense. Only after threatening to file a complaint against the supervisor personally did they at least reimburse me for that. (I still filed the complaint with no response). i could go on an on..... In the past five years I've flown other airlines literally hundreds of times and have barely had a delayed flight, yet the only 3 times I've flown United I've encountered significant problems. I obviously fly a lot and United has lost a LOT of business by pissing me off. (A lot of where I fly to is California, Washington DC or Chicago... all places United flies... but I stick with American or USAirways. Never had any problems with them).

heating broke in one "section" of the plane- we were all moved until they sorted it out... (flying from europe to the us)
not to mention all the terrible turbulences i've been through.. i remember once the plane couldn't land because of bad weather conditions, so it basically went down in circles...

I'll give you mine then one my mother had.

While on my way to Memphis, on approach in a heavy rain and thunderstorm, the pilot missed the ILS approach and we had to go around and do it again. Very bumpy.

Mom was enroute to Europe. On takeoff from Atlanta they got about halfway down the runway and the pilot hit the brakes and cut power aborting the takeoff. He told them "Sorry folks, I just didn't feel good about that takeoff." Mom said that if he didn't feel good about she didn't either and they tried again and all was well.

Now that I think about it I have one more. While learning to fly, I had my permission to solo. I took off in moderate turbulence in a Cessna 150. It was terrible. So bumpy that it hurt. Feeling that I was out of my league, I deciced to land and fly another day. I messed up the approach about 10 times and was starting to get worried. On about the 15th try I managed to get it on the ground. Just before I was about to take it to a larger airport with a longer runway that was more in line with the wind. That one scared the pants off me.

Thank goodness I have no really horrific tales to tel here... but the worst flight I was ever on was 3 years ago on a flight from Chicago to Florida. I was so sick and really stuffy with a horrible head cold. all I wanted to do was sleep but I couldn't because I was in the very last row and my seat wouldn't even recline. I was also right next to the bathroom so every person that walked back there of course had to either stand with their butt in my face or their crotch in my face. and of course every person on either their way in or out had to somehow bump me. I had never been so happy to get off a flight in my life and on my way home I made sure that I was not in the last seat.

I had to sit on the runway for over an hour waiting on a really bad thunderstorm to clear up. Lots of lightning all around. That was scary.

Caught a flight to LA to catch a cruiseship and the airline lost my luggage. Not wanting to miss the boat's departure, I left from the airport on the promise that my suitcase would be tracked down and delivered to me at my first port-of-call. Turns out I finally got my suitcase five days into an eight-day cruise ... gee, thanks ...
