The answer is... let them all fly. US carriers have a pre-set average weight for each adult passenger; 185 lbs. in the summer and 190 lbs. in the winter. This number is pre-set into the aircrafts computer and is multiplied by the total passengers on board the plane. So it doesn't matter how much each individual passenger weighs, in the airline business, everyone ways the same. There is one exception; children under the age of 12 only weigh 85 lbs. |

Some airlines charge a premium for the really slob fat people who take up 2 seats... and they should... it seems like I am always getting stuck in the seat between two of them and have to sit out the whole flight with my arms pinned to my sides. |

I think that the only fair arrangement would be to have a total weigh in of self plus luggage. That way small slim people could take extra luggage (only they probably wouldn't want to, as it would be hard for them to carry it) and big fat people would be severely restricted as to what they could take on. However, someone would probably claim that this arrangement was racist, as Celts, Italians, Iberians and Asians tend to be small people and Anglo Saxons, Scandinavians and Eastern Europeans tend to be large people.
I understand that aircraft gauge the amount of fuel to put on board by the weight being carried. For that reason, when I fly in a small local aircraft I exaggerate my weight upwards when they ask, as I reckon that other people will be exaggerating downwards, and I don't like to think of our having insufficient fuel. |

No need to worry, the planes are design to never to exced the total capacity of people allowed, even if they are all overweight by 25+ pounds. |

Seriously, that is very highly unlikely! Especially if you're talking obese meaning requiring two seats... Highly unlikely!

I agree that overweight people should pay more, it's a joke that you pay more when your case is over and fat bloke who weighs 25st pays nothing more for adding to the weight of the flight.
It's not PC to say this (I care not) but it does make sense. They should come up with some kind of average traveller weight table and adjust the charges accordingly. Happy New Year Jazz |

what should happen is that everyone has to have thier ideal weight printed onto their passport, along with name , address etc. Then, when weighed at check-in, they should be charged for every pound they are over.
what will happen is nothing - because all the fatties would sue if they're fast pie-arm was pointed out in public.
I imagine if the plane filled with obese people, it would just take longer to take off, but it would be one hell of a fast landing!! |
