When Flying how is there anyway to get bumped into first class when travelling alone?

Change ticket, there will be a fee associated with it unless you use your frequent flier miles. It still costs you but not in $. You will also gain pts. by flying this trip anyways.

Bumped:
Listen to announcements and get to the counter quickly to take advantage of "free stuff" usually a hotel room overnight and food vouchers.

This is common in situations of:

1. Overbooking (Internet reservations highly affect this.)
2. Weather conditions
3. Act of God (Earthquakes, etc)
Don't think birds are considered an act of god when it suspense flight. (Sorry bad joke. Glad everyone is safe!

Have a safe flight..!!!!! Though you have a good chance no. 1 can happen.

I've answered this question quite a few times.Airlines will only upgrade if we have an overbooking situation on our hands,and it is passengers who have frequent flyer cards who will take preference over those who don't.Those that ask for an upgrade at check in will not even be considered.We are sick to death of people asking everyday...if you want an upgrade,then pay for a higher class ticket!!!...How would you like it if you had paid Ā£6000 on a ticket and then discover the person sitting next to you had only paid Ā£300....not too happy I would imagine.

the difference in UK flights, economy to first class is astronomical, can't see the point paying all that extra just to have a bit more leg room

No chance. Hardly happens anymore and priority goes to passengers who are members of the frequent flyer scheme (like me). Even you are fortunate enough to get upgraded it'll be to business class.
If you want an upgrade may I suggest you pay for it.

You could always just ask for an upgrade, if you are travelling yourself then the space you free up in economy will allow a couple to sit together, oh a free upgrade that is, just brass neck it.

My uncle has managed 3 free upgrades travelling to the states from the UK using this method.

Just try your luck and ask at the airline desk in the airport. It's not likely but if you don't ask it's even less likely.

fly some crap american airlines. they are soo stupid they overbook their flights so HAVE to put u in first class. i think i flew united once, they actually used swiss air plane and overbooked and i got bumped to first class,

Check in early, dress well and be polite - I regularly get bumped up.
