you may need some cash to buy drinks or snacks.. depends on the airline, some have free soft drinks, some don't. if you are flying on a British plane use British money, if its an American plane use Dollars, if its another European plane use Euro's... they currency of the origin of the plane is going to be least extortionate, but its not worth changing money just to fly on the plane. So if all you have is Dollars take that.
you will need some money once you have landed, but you knew that already for things like taxi, bus, tube whatever to get to your final destination.
if your trip involves a plane change you may need some cash for drinks or whatever.. flight changes can be 2+ hours long, again try to use the currency of the country the airport is in.. in Heathrow, Streling etc...
you may need to alert your bank that you are going abroad so that if your credit/debit card suddenly pops up in the UK they won't cancel it. many places int he UK will accept credit / debit cards for payment (including train, tube & many purchases)... just don't use a credit card to withdraw cash.. they will shaft you big time on interest and obscure rules as to when cash purchases get paid off
And BTW, Welcome to Britain, just bear in mind there is a heck of lot more to the UK than just London, and the other tourist traps

You may have a problem, the immigration official at your port of entry does not grant you permanent residency the most they can give you is six months, they will want to know where you intend to stay and that you have sufficient funds to cover you for six months if they have any suspicions about you they will put you on the next plane back. If they do let you in and you later decide you want to stay then you must apply to the home office immigration dept. for permanent residency |

No you dont need to have money on you, but you would be a bit stuck if you wanted to buy anything (ie drinks/ food etc) You can pay for most things with cards / chip & pin. |

It's always a good idea to have money when you're traveling. You might suddenly get hungry and not want to whip out the credit card.
Especially to foreign countries. Get some conversioned money just for emergencies. I recommend 40 euro at the very least. |

yea you need money to support yourself they do ask how much you have on you and sometimes the wont let you in because they don't think you'll be able to support yourself! |

It would look strange it you didn't have any money on you when travelling. Take about £50 in cash, that's just under $100. Customs would probably wonder what you are up to if didn't have any cash. That was my mistake with first going to the UK. I didn't have any cash on me but because I was 10 they didn't really question it but they still asked why i didn't and told me that it would look suspicious if I was an adult |
