When you get to Amsterdam you should not have to clear customs. When you get off the plane you'll be in the secure part of the airport and you'll be boarding the plane to Prague from the secure area so all you need to do is find the gate the second plane is departing from. There are plenty of restaurants, fast food, some shops etc to keep you busy if there is a gap between when you land and take off.

In Prague you will need to clear customs. The basic procedure is to approach the customs officer. You'll get asked a bunch of questions about your visit. Then you go get your luggage. After you collect you luggage you move toward the unsecured area of the airport. At this point depending on random selection plus the answers you gave you might need to go into a second room where they search your bags. If you don't get that then you just walk out and are free to go

I've actually taken a flight from Ohio to Detroit, from Detroit to Amsterdam, and from there to Rome and there are no customs or immigration. But when you fly back to the states, that's where you have to go through all that crap. Have fun!

No you will be "in transit" so you might have to show your passport but that's about it. Keep your passport handy, also your ongoing boarding pass.

You are lucky, Amsterdam airport ( schipol) is a very laid back, stress free airport as I'm sure most people will agree.

If your luggage is checked in "straight through" that can help too. I think you will really enjoy Amsterdam airport.

You shouldn't have to go through any immigration at all because you aren't trying to live in the country (or so I assume), just visit.

You will have to go through customs at all airports, which is just a security check to make sure you aren't carrying lethal weapons, liquids from the outside world, suspicious objects (70 year old men with baby's bottles?).
You'll also have to have your passport checked at the country Border.

If you get lost, ask for help. They won't judge you.

Otherwise, just follow everyone else!

Don't worry about it. Everyone on your plane will be going through the same thing.

FishBait
Honestly, when you get there, ask the flight clerk... Ask the flight attendant, and when you get off the plane, ask the clerks there... they can explain it better...

they are there to HELP you lol

don't worry, it's a pretty easy process IF YOU ASK FOR HELP.

When going on your trip, you should only have to pass through customs/immigration when you get to Prague. However, on your return trip, you have to go through customs at your first point of entry within the United States. This means if you are coming back the same way you are going, you would clear customs in Detroit when you are returning. I hope you have a great trip!

You will hit immigration in Amsterdam and Prague.

You should only have to go through immigration once in your first landing in the country. If you are just passing through a country, they may ask to see your passport and such but you should not have to go through immigration.

BoardingJD
Are you immigrating? If not, no, you don't have to deal with immigration. You'll just go through customs. Hang on to your passport and don't bring any food with you, you shouldn't get held up. No big deal at all.

El'
None of these things...if you just change plane...you only need to go to the gate your plane leaves from...

It depends. Are you going to go out into Amsterdam or are you sitting in the lounge waiting for the plane to Prague. ?If you are not going out and your luggage is being sent on then you just sit and wait for the next flight to Prague. You just have to watch the boards to find out where it is or ask the stewardess. When you get off in Prague you need your passport and after you collect your luggage you will need to pass through Customs. Green light if you have nothing to declare!

May J
i think you pass through immigration in the country you land in, so if you connect, you don't go through immigration. i could be wrong though.

Dad's found yer scoo'er
If Amsterdam is merely a changing airport they tuck you away in a transit lounge. You'll have to go through immigration at Prague.

ediesedgwick60s
I am almost positive there is not. unless your stepping outside the airport. there should be no problem.
