When you are in an airport, what's a gate?

Okay, in a few days I am going to be flying out of state and I don't know the least bit on flying in planes. But luckily I'll be flying with some friends. Anyway, what's a gate?! (that gate thing people say are in airports)

That is the area from which you leave the airport building and board the aircraft.

It may be a direct boarding via a covered ramp, a bus trip or a walk across the tarmac.

If in doubt, ask for help when you are there. It will be fine.

It's a waiting place before you get on the plane.

When you are at the "gate", it means you already have checked-in your baggages, you already have passed through all the security procedures and you already have a boarding pass.

You are waiting at the "gate" to get into the plane before the flight.

When you show your ticket at the very first counter and checked in your luggage, the lady will give you a boarding pass and will tell you which gate you need to find.

Enjoy your trip!

The place where you go to board the plane. Think of a big dog kennel. You go into the main room where you tell the owner you want to pick up a dog or cat, pay your money, etc -- they hand you a ticket (ticket counter). You then go through security. Behind security is this large building with many corridors that lead to many, many doors spaced far apart where the planes are parked.... at each individual gate. Just like each animal is separated from each other behind a gate, each airplane is separated behind a gate -- which is actually now a long ramp. Actually the term gate was before they had inside ramps and doors and the passengers would line up outside in the cold air behind marked gates to be escorted out to the planes. They still have "gates" in small airports and the carribean.

its the area where you wait to board your plane. They name each gate liek A1 or F3 etc. Its normally really easy to find your gate. Have fun flying =)

The gate is the entrance from which you are allowed to board the plane, so when you are ready to fly take a good note of every thing, the gates are numbered, you would not be at a lost all you would have to do is ask questions from uniformed airport workers. ok.

soccerknocker199
it is where the airplane is docked that is where you go to get on the airlane

It is where you actually board the plane.

A gate is where the airplane is located in the terminal at an airport. Each gate has a number. Your flight will be at gate #__. Go to that gate number, and you will see your plane. At each gate is a jetway, if you're flying on a commercial jet (e.g. B757, A320, etc.). The jetway is what connects the plane to the terminal.
Have fun!

The way to a specific flight

Its the door where your aircraft is located for you to board. Just before the gate, there will be airline staff who will be checking your passport / & boarding pass. After that is done, you walk through the gate and onto a aerobridge. At the end of the aerobridge, will be the aircraft you are scheduled to fly on.

a gate is the place where you go after all the security checks and stuff...its a section labled by number and letter...i.e..32A to Denver...when you get to the airport early, you do the whole security check, and on your plane ticket it will have the gate number...there will be arrows around the airport that tells you which direction to go...you might have to take a shuttlebus to go across to gates C1-C30 for example...when you find the gate number, sit in one of the seats in the section and wait for the hostess to anounce boarding
