When you use the toilet on an airplane, where does the waste go?

There's a tank below the lav that holds the waste in what's called "blue juice", which is just a water sanitizer and deodorant, it does not fall out of the plane or anything.

When the plane lands, the lav truck will hook up to plane, drain the tanks, flush them with more blue juice to clean them, and then refill the tanks with clean juice for the next flight. At least, this is how it works on larger aircraft.

The typical home toilet uses a bowl filled with water. When you flush the toilet, it starts a siphon that drains the bowl. Gravity then carries the water into the septic tank or the sewer system.

The problem with this approach on an airplane (or a train, bus, boat, etc.) is that the motion of the vehicle means you cannot use a bowl filled with water because it would splash out every time turbulence came along. Since there is no bowl of water, you cannot use a siphon or gravity to empty the bowl and waste.

Airplane toilets use an active vacuum instead of a passive siphon, therefore they are called vacuum toilets. When you flush, it opens a valve in the sewer line, and the vacuum in the line sucks the contents out of the bowl and into a tank. Because the vacuum does all the work, it takes very little water (or the blue sanitizing liquid used in airplanes) to clean the bowl for the next person. Most vacuum systems flush with just half a gallon (2 liters) of fluid or less which is alot less than what is used in a standard house hold toilet.

After that, the waste is put into a holding tank located below the lavatories. The tank contains a blue sanitizing liquid, which also keeps the smell down. The container is very very thick, which also stops the smell from spreading throughout the aircraft.

Once the aircraft arrives at it's destination the tank is emptied, and cleaned out. It is then refilled with fresh sanitizing liquid for the next flight. When your waiting in the departure lounge and watching all those trucks service your plane, one of them is cleaning out the holding tank that had all the waste from the previous passengers on the last flight with that aircraft.

- Hope this helps :-)

Into a holding tank which is drained after each flight.

into a holding tank after each flight because you cant just let go and land on someones house or somthing that would hurt

It goes into a tank in the plane and is emptied after the flight is over

There are 2 ways the plane can dispose of the waste. When overland, it is emptied into a holding tank. However once the plane is over open waters out of known sea routes, the waste is released outside the plane. This will ensure that there will not be any overflowing toilet in the plane.

they cook food with that **** and pee

Bluealt
The waste goes into a chemical holding tank and is then cleaned and tank replaced when the plane is on the ground.'

da_hammerhead
They drop the toilet waste in unpopulated areas

Josh
airplanes have a tank on them that stores the waste until the plane is landed and then they clean it out. Kinda nasty but thats how they do it.
