No, the airport is not the only alternative.
You can just type airline tickets in your internet, and
a whole world of airlines and prices and tickets you can
purchase are there.
If you find you flight and time, and feel uncomfortable purchasing on line...you can call them and pay with your
credit card or cash when you get there. Also, if you desire,
they will mail the airline tickets to you.
So, why not sit home and let your fingers do the walking.
I purchased several tickets for my son's while they were
attending college and wanted to come home for the Holidays.

I think a travel agent may be able to help you out. And im pretty sure you can do it over the phone but only with a credit card. Travel agent you may be able to pay in cash.
