To quickly search all of the websites mentioned, and only have to type in your cities and dates one time, try Booking Buddy. It is a real time-saver. It checks about 40 sources including airline websites, Travelocity, Expedia, Orbitz, Sidestep, Kayak, Mobissimo, Hotwire, and more. It does NOT check Southwest, because this airline does not participate in "CRSes" or reservation systems, like the other airlines. However, Southwest might not serve your city; go to their site to see. If they do, they still might not be cheaper than anyone else, so compare to what Booking Buddy finds, then take that information and try to book direct with the airline.

Cheaptickets usually has good deals. The bad thing is that you don't know the airline or the time of your flight until after you pay for the ticket. But if it's a really good price, it's worth it. I've never had a problem with them.

You definitely have to comparison shop. I found my best deal on expedia.com as a flight/hotel package deal.

Any of the major ticketing websites will work for you, such as Yahoo Travel, Orbitz.com, etc. All sell the same discounted fares. Airlines have several levels or "fare basis codes" that are used in pricing. Most of the time you'll find the lowest fares available on any of these sites. Good Luck!

I use one of the sites that searches for you, then I go to the airline's own web site and purchase from there.

Has worked great for me every time.

(I love Yahoo, but they charge you $5 to buy tickets through them when you can just as easily do it yourself at airline's site.)

www.southwest.com

Southwest does not participate in other sites like Orbitz, travelocity, etc, so whatever you get, be sure to do a comparison with Southwest. They are usually the most reasonably priced.

Depends on where you live. Jet Blue or Southwest or Air Tran Whoever services your nearest airport. I find Travelocity and Expedia not to be cheaper than dealing direct with the above mentioned airlines.
