The best place is any row that is near the emergency exit in the middle of the plane. With Southwest's findings that they didn't take care of, I'm too scared myself to fly with them but I'm sure that they have fixed all the planes. I have been on 2 roundtrips since December and I've had no problem on any of the planes.
Honestly. The row in front of and behind the emergency exit row along with the emergency exit row have helped alot of people with the sick feeling to the stomach and also fear of heights. It is best to sit in either of those 3 rows for best chance of survival. |

I am an Airline traveller all of my life , and all I can say to you is you shouldn't be worried about that . Just relax , travelling by air is the safest of all . Of course when we hear of an Airline crash , it's horrific news . But in reality there is less death per miles travelled by air then there is per cars . Perhaps you should seek some counselling about your fear of travelling . Good luck and have a great day . |

I would sit near the back end. But its a bumper ride.
I like to sit over the front of the wing so I can see down.
The fuel tanks are in the wings, and go through the middle underside of the plane.
Today planes are pretty safe |

They put the "black box" in the tail as that seems to be the piece of the plane that survives the most often. Too bad there are no seats in the tail.
Tail gunners on the early model B52 bombers were often the only ones to survive a crash. When they moved the seat to the middle of the plane, using a remote controlled gun at the rear, some tail gunners quit rather than move.
If a plane hits something, the front is the first part to hit. Little is there to absorb the impact so the front is almost never found intact. As you move further back in the plane, there is more to take the impact and more of the plane is found intact.
BUT too far back and the fuel in the wings will fry you.
I would suggest you sit over the wings. |

All the seats are the same, in terms of safety. Air travel is the safest way to travel - it is far more dangerous to get into your car in the morning. Take a Valium and enjoy the flight.
Btw, there are no flights from Toronto to Johannesburg direct. You need to fly via the US or Europe.
When last did a plane crash? Really, there is nothing to be scared of. |

towards the back in one of the middle seats not next to a window close to an exit should be the safest seats |

if your plane is going to crash, you are the safest to be at the back. If your at the back, the front of the aircraft actully acts like a cushion so you come to a stop at a less rate (bieleve it or not)
they have the aircraft black box at the rear of the aircraft.....the strongest part of the plane!
with the feul tanks.....Boeings and Airbus's have them in the wings.....varys aircraft to aircraft. |

there are many rumors about "where" to sit on a plane. and the honest answer. there isn't any. how many plane crashes have you seen or heard about that a certain part of the plane wasn't hurt. You need to relax and know you are safe hun. |

no plane crash is the same... soo I don't think there is a safest place to sit...
You are MORE likely to crash in a car then a plane
but if you ask me.. I'd sit on the wing.. the tip...
just playin. |

The fuel tanks can vary depending on what type of plane it is, but the fuel is usually stored in the wings.
The safest place to sit will also vary depending on how the plane crashes. Generally though, a safe place to sit is near the rear of the plane, behind the wings and at an exit row. |

You should not get on the plane. There are no safe seats. |

There is no specific seat that will allow you a greater chance of surviving a plane crash because there are so many different ways a plane can go down. Some crashes the passengers sitting in the back survive. In other crashes, it is the people in the back to die.
I would not worry about the plane crashing since the number of airline crashes have decreased a lot. Airline travel is still the safest form of transportation. Just listen to the flight safety instructions and know where the emergency exits are. What I do when I board an aircraft is count how many rows I am away from the nearest emergency exit. |

ah at the front probably IF it does crash your close to the parachutes and the pilot will pull up so the back will take the damage. But planes are so safe anyway. |

Luckily for you, intelligence plays no factor in airplane crash survival. If you do survive a crash or explosion, which most people don't, then it's purely luck. |
