Personally, I prefer Delta, but that's only because they fly to more destinations and their frequent fliers miles can be used on more airlines (Air France, for example).
In terms of actual flight experience, it's a toss-up. I've flown both airlines many times. I've had flights that were flawless on both, but I've also had absolute disasters on both. This is the nature of flying, because you have the confluence of so many forces: Weather, airline employees, equipment, etc.
Both airlines have received good ratings in terms of inflight services, and my experiences are consistent with that.
In short, if mileage redemption is important to you, go with Delta. If not, I'd choose the airline that offers the best price and the most convenient schedule. Those are, after all, valuable commodities.
Happy Travels!

Delta. You can earn miles for future trips with Delta and their partners. These can be redeemed for international flights, which is one thing that Airtran doesn't offer. |

Of these two choices I vote for Delta. The problem is, no matter where you are going you have to change planes in either Cincinnati or Atlanta. I hate the Atlanta airport. I have never not been delayed in Atlanta. |

Delta! They offer more legroom and usually in flight video entertainment. Also there food and beverage items are more extensive. |

Delta! I flew AirTran once - only once! I was being flown out to California for a job interview and they booked the flight. It was the worse flight I have ever been on!! I was so thankful once I got to LA. When it was time to return home, I was dreading the flight. It did not disappoint, it also was horrible. |

Air Tran has received a higher rating than Delta for in-flight service but what I like about Delta is that they fly to more destinations. They also have their Delta connection carriers such as Comair and Atlantic Southeast. However what I like about Air Tran is that their aircraft are newer. I have flown Delta and do not have any problems with them. |

it depends on how far you are going in a plane because if you are going a long way you would like to have more foot space and a telly but some airlines don't give you those opportunities. |
