Which airline is the best to fly with for larger people i'm kinda worried about the seat size? |
I'm flying to america next year and as yet havent decided who i want to fly with. The reason being i'm worried about the seat as i'm a large lady. I would love to know if anyone has been in this situation and can help me find the best airline to fly with so my flight isn't one of horror and dread. I would much rather be thinking about how i'm going to enjoy New York rather than be worrying about the seats on the plane. |

Do yourself a favor and spend a bit extra to fly first class. Continental has very comfortable accommodations in this area. If you decide you are ok to fly in the regular seats, rememeber that coach seating is pretty much the same on all airlines. Continental is a good choice. I have flown with them many times to London from both NY and Chicago and they have great service, clean and well maintained planes.
Good Luck :-) |

You will find that most airline seats are comparable unless you are in first or business class. If you are quite large, you may want to consider purchasing two coach seats to give yourself plenty of room. If you purchase only one and cannot fit in it, you may be asked to purchase another. If the flight is full, you can be removed. If you fit in the seat, but not the seatbelt, ask the cabin crew for a seatbelt extension (you may not use these at an exit row.) If you are travelling with someone, make sure you get seats in a row where the armrests go up, this will also give you a little more room. Not trying to be mean, but if you have a year before you travel, perhaps a little exercise and a more moderate diet would make you enjoy not only the airplane trip more but walking around New York as well...hope this information helps! |

1. Get a first class seat
2. Buy 2 coach seats
All the airlines are pretty much the same, trying to get as many people as they can on the plane. If you really are that big and cannot lose enough weight before the trip, the 2 options above are really the only thing you can do. |

If you are travelling first or business class, seats tend to be much wider in all airlines, so there really shouldnt be a problem. But, of course, its a much more expensive option..so you may have already ruled that out.
In economy class (which is what Americans mean by "coach class"), seats sizes are pretty similar regardless of airline, and can be pretty cramped even for less large people. I am fairly tall ( 6' 3") and find I rarely have sufficient legroom to be in any way comfortable.
The best option is to make sure you are allocated a seat directly by one of the plane's exit doors, which gives you much more space directly in front, so you can at least move around in your seat and have more comfort.
Speak to the airline about your specific requirements when you book the flight...its really not an uncommon request for them to have. I have found Virgin to be very helpful in the past, and British Airways and Continental are also good in this respect. |

This website lists the seat width and the seat pitch (distance between the seats) of many of the airlines that fly to America and within America. I think you'll find that there isn't too much difference amongst the airlines in economy class. Also, I think the people who have recommended buying a first class ticket haven't checked first class fares lately, it can easily cost 8-10 times more to fly first class, and usually 4-5 times more to fly business class, if money is a concern, if you think it's necessary then two coach tickets will normally be much cheaper than a business or 1st class ticket. Good luck:

For airlines not listed you can call or check their websites for seat information. |

I would buy a first class seat or buy 2 coach class seats. And definately dont fly southwest because they will give you problems about your weight. Maybe continental or US air maybe |

Call the airlines and ask for seat dimensions, you might be surprised that they are not all the same and might be the width you're looking for. Also, if you find that you are not a coach-sized person, upgrade to a first class seat, you'll find they're larger seats and most cost effective (most of the time). :) Good luck! |

I know someone else who has this problem, he calls the airline and asks, or he buys a first class seat.
He also flies Midwest, because their Signature service jets have wider seats. |

economy seat sizes are standard.
So, if you were to sit in the economy section, choose the aisle seating becuase its just easier for you. You can move your arms and legs out a bit more for room and its easier for you when you have to go to bathroom.
if you want me room, then you are going to have to pay for it. I know that united does this economy plus seating where you get more room. But i think its going to cost like an extra 100?
somewhere around there. |
