Which airlines charge double fare for "persons of size"?

Or more importantly, which ones do not? Anyone know or experience this?

Southwest Airlines is NOT the only carrier that charges double for someone occupying two seats.

I would take heed what corporate travel agent had to say. Her suggestion is very good and most cost effective. Good luck!

P.S. Call the airline and ask for seat dimensions, you might be surprised that they are not all the same and might be the width you're looking for.

ga.peach67
If the person is large enough to take up 2 seats all the major carriers will charge double. The person might be better off to pay for discounted first class seat instead which has roomier seating.

not to be rude, but if you require more than one seat on an airplane...you should have to pay for it. i can't imagine what airline wouldn't charge for someone that would be occupying multiple seats.

mgdimarco
Southwest Airlines is the only carrier I know of that charges for needing the equivelant of two seats. Even then, it is not always the case. Any questions you have about what a carrier allows or does not allow can be found in their Contract of Carriage. It is a required document and can be found online for every US carrier. Finding the link may not be easy but the vast majority of a customers questions can be answered there.

Lord Worple
I am pretty sure they all do now.

Amber H
yeah Im pretty sure they all do but I mean you can google airlines and look at the rules of certain airlines

kendavi
All Airlines will charge for two seats. If you don't pay for two seats, you risk being kicked off the plane as nobody likes a spread of fat streaming all over them and filling half of the seat that they have paid for. Either accept that you have to pay for the extra seat you use up and all the extra fuel needed to get your weight off the ground and to your destination. Either that or lose weight!

jackson
Most all do and I would be hard pressed to think of one that does not. Yes there are certain seats on certain planes where one might get away with not paying extra but obviously it would take some effort to be that specific and get a deal on a flight.

I have had two really good friends who were seriously portly. They would do as another answerer said......... take the price of two seats and upgrade to one seat in a better class where the seats are bigger. Unfortunatly they both died in their 40s for obvious reasons.

I know Southwest Does and it's very embarrassing if you have not already booked a double seat. I have seen it happen to other passanger while standing in line at the airport, not pretty.

If you eat so much that your body is double that of a normal human being, you would be better off directing your energy towards lowering your life threatening mass. Put down the fork.
