Which is best, window or aisle seat? Why?

Obviously, with a window seat (in most rows), you have an easier time looking out the window and can see more of the land passing below, but mostly the clouds.

An aisle seat provides more room, since noone is sitting on one side of you, and it is easier to get out and move about the plane, go to the bathroom, or just stretch. You can also exit the plane a little quicker when you arrive at your destination.

Sometimes two people who are traveling together will request two neighboring aisle seats in the same row because they both prefer the aisle. (These would typically be seats C and D in a 6-across configuration.)

If there are only two seats between the aisle and the side of the plane, then the window seat is somewhat less inconvenient for entry/exit from the row.

That's a matter of personal preference. Some people really like to look out the window. Others are not interested, or dislike the cold and/or noise. Some like having something to lean against to sleep. Some like not having to get up for someone else to get out to go to the lav. Some like being on the aisle so they can get up even if the person in the other seat is sleeping.

What everyone agrees on is this: There's nothing positive about having a middle (not aisle or window) seat.

It depends on the type of aircraft and seat confguration which can vary from airline to airline. The best source I've found for seat information is: http://www.seatguru.com Just click on the airline you are flying then the type of aircraft which should be listed on your confirmation or itinerary. Just remember that slecting a seat assignment does not guarantee that you'll actually get that seat due to equipment changes, accomodation of special needs passengers, etc.

I prefer window.

With an Aisle seat, you risk the chance of your knee being hit by passing passengers, and the service cart.

It depends on your needs. Some people who need to get up and walk around or who need to use the bathroom would prefer an aisle seat. I prefer a window seat because I like to look out the window and take pictures of the airport.

It's based on personal preference. Personally, I like the window because i like to have something to lean on when I'm sleeping and so no one will cross me as they're trying to go to the lavatory (plus sometimes I like to look outside). For those who may experience motion sickness the middle or aisle seat would be the best. However, that has it's problems too. However, it doesn't matter too tough cause in the end, the seats still feel the same :)
