Virgin all the way baby!! British Airways is more "proper" and therefore the flight attendants are more rigid than on Virign.

VA is a hip and trendy airline, so the flight is loaded with fun and the flight attendants don't treat you like cattle.

Aah, the eternal question. Having flown with both, I can say that you do get a more "british" standard (i.e. quite good) with British Airways, with Virgin Atlantic being a bit more fun. I can honestly say, although I doubt few will believe me, I have never had a bad experience with British Airways, touch wood. So, I would say, on balance, go with whoever is the cheapest.

Virgin Atlantic. They have modern clean aircraft, an great Personal TV System that is on demand with at least a weeks worth of entertainment on it. The crew are friendly, you also get plenty of complimentary items such as a small welcome pack and plenty of food, snacks etc. Plus YOU WILL GET YOUR BAGGAGE!

VIRGIN no questions about it

British Airways, but it is personal preference. They are both good airlines.

My family have flown BA regularly since I was knee-high to a grasshopper and when I started flying independently and buying my own tickets I went down the BA route too. I've flown them hundreds of times, long and shorthaul and am in my fourth year as an Executive Club Gold cardholder, was a Silver for a couple of years before that.

Despite what the morons in the press will let you know Terminal 5 is very good and has been apart from the first week's problems. Their staff are for the most part excellent, the seating (95% of my flights are in Club Europe, Club World or First) is too. Sure I've had a couple of not so good flights but when you've flown with an airline hundreds of times it is bound to happen.

My parents defected to Virgin Upper Class for a handful of flights and it wasn't good enough to retain them as passengers and they're back to being BA flyers. They liked the Virgin lounges, car service and found the seats good (though not for couples) but found the cabin crew to be EXTREMELY variable. My father didn't appreciate being called 'mate' repeatedly by one member of the crew for 11hrs!

I think if you want more consistent professional British service then you'd like BA. If you want more of a funky atmosphere then Virgin might be preferable.

Any airline is better than BA. They are crap, and I will never fly with them again. The last time I went to the US, I paid £90 more for my ticket to avoid having to fly with them.

Samuel
Virgin Atlantic, but American Airlines are even better!
