Signal interference is debatable--- only certain devices like really old cell phones cause any interference. The real reason is, they're a distraction. Takeoff and landing are the most dangerous times in a flight. If you're going to have a crash or an emergency, that's when it's most likely to happen, and because you are already close to the ground, your pilot has a lot less time to react to a problem than when you're cruising at 34,000 feet. So you must be ready to hear emergency instructions and react quickly. This is the same reason they will raise the cabin lighting breifly before landing--- they want you to be more or less awake so that you can evacuate quickly if needed. Could you imagine trying to figure out how to get out of the plane with your iPod jammed into your ears? Or getting yourself tangled in the headphone wires trying to escape? The extra 15 seconds might make a big difference in a real emergency. |

it can interfere with the airplane peoples signals and can mess up like radio signals to the home desk people |

because it messes with the initial navigation equipment |

It could interfere with the instruments used to take off, plus they want you to pay attention to in-flight instructions in the case of an emergency. |

possible interference with communication from pilots to tower and or flight instruments
since now a day most are all digital |

THE REASON HAS TO DO WITH THE PRECISE NAVIGATION REQUIRES DELIQUET INSTRUMENTS WHICH ARE EXTREMLY IMPORTANT AND THE INTERFIERENCE IN SUCH A CLOSED SPACE COULD CAUSE SERIOUS PROBLEMS (LIKE NAVIGATION...) |

becuase the pilot needs to keep in contact with ground control...electorincs might interrupt the connection!

because of the radio frequencies. A cell phone could interfere with the radio communications between the cockpit and air traffic controller. |

i believe it has to something with the electronic possibly interfering with the airplane's communications. not totally sure, but it makes sense. |

possible electric interferance reasons , best to leave them off. You don't want to jeopardize your life |

What the airlines don't want you to know! Of course they say it might interfere with their radio signals and communications. But that is simply not true. It's a matter of convenience, and other safety issues for them, that you do not have it on during the flight. |

they say because it could interfere but it doesnt, my dad flies on a jet 2-3 times a day for his job bringing injured people back to the city and he has equipment on all the time even when they are taking off and the pilot's are communicating with who ever they have to.. it doesnt mess it up.. i think they just dont want little things out that could go flying and hurt someone.. i always have me cell on during the whole plane ride.. |
