Why are airfare's so expensive right now?

I have been browsing for airfare from LA to NY for the past couple of months and it has been very expensive compared to the past. Are fares going to change soon? Before the end of July that is? Should I hurry and buy now? I don't want to be assed out if you know what I mean.

Because the summer is the high season, rates are always up this time of year. It has nothing to do with global warming or oil prices, it's an issue of supply and demand. This is when people take vacations as their kids are out of school and locations are nice and warm.

Don't expect them to fall until after the first week of September when the kids go back to school. The only places with lower rates are one that are really hot, so hot that you don't want to be there.

Fuel prices and cut rate airlines.

shop2early
You should know the answer to that. Gasoline it is sky high. LOL

Anything & EVERYTHING that has to do with Oil- has gone, or is going- up. And jet fuel is made of a LOT of oil. Don't count on the price of Airline tickets to go down much- before Fall.

Fuel cost. Same reason driving is costing more.

My mom works for ExxonMobil and she says it's because of gas. During the summer is when alot of people travel, and so companies raise fuel prices, knowing people have to buy it.

High season ! simple is that.
I bought a ticket r/t from LAX to JFK 2 weeks ago. Now it would have costs me $75.00 more.
The closest your departure date, the more expensive it becomes.

try JetBlue from Long Beach to JFK or Burbank to JFK

fare are posted every couple of months and last time i look the presummer fare ended in first week of june. peak summer travel begins when kids are usually out of school; airline rely on past trend from previous year to gauge and forecast next year. so customer behavior and buying habits always indicates when fare are going to fall and raise. we all know summer is a time for family vacation, and we see vacation packages, cruises, and last minute deals that are somewhat expensive. rule of thumb: always buy 4-6 months in advance.

Roni
its b/c the gas prices are so high so the gas for the plane is also more expensive

I would buy now. The major airlines are reducing capacity which will mean less availability of seats thus driving price increases. GOOD LUCK!
