Why are fat people allowed the same baggage allowance on planes as thin people.?

Why can't the passenger and baggage be weighed and the tariff set at a reasonable level for males and females.

Actually the weight of all luggage has to be calculated as it affects the amount of fuel to be loaded. I can see airlines charging more for fat people to travel if oil prices go up. It will become a bit like the postal service, cost is based on size and weight. I am sure the check-in staff are trained to spread the weight around when fat people check in.

Because larger people are penalised as they already have to take less clothes as their clothes are bigger.

sad very sad its not a matter of fat or thin is it its how much luggage you need every one has the same rights im only thin and cant see your problem to be honest

Florida Girl
Because this is America and it's against the law to discriminate against people because of their weight.

Now if they are too large to fit in the seat, they do have to buy two tickets and at that point, I would guess they would be allowed to bring on twice as much baggage.

Just be happy you are not in their shoes-I know I am.

Niecy
That doesn't make any sense. Someone's weight does not have anything to do with how much baggage they will have.

because that would be hihgly unfair.
some people who are really fat dont actually choose to be really fat
i once had to sit on a transatlantic flight next to someone who was so fat that half of her was on my seat........ bl00dy annoying, but thats life

It is not so much the luggage space but the amount of room they take up inside the cabin. They can make life very incomfortable for the person/s sitting next to them. The Airlines need to find a solution acceptable to everyone.

Pia
Depending on how fat the person is, they may even charge two tickets, for two seats, to aggravate the hunilliation. Just let them be... Cargo is cargo, and humans are humans

It's because people are afraid to offend fat people. No one hesitates to say anything to thin people, though.
More often than not being fat IS a choice. Weight loss is easy, it just requires discipline.

eight-hours
It might seem like a good idea, but in fact in would be in breach of
human rights. Your assuming no doubt that people should be penalised for being fat and that it is their own fault.

Which it were that simple. A great many people are overweight due to many varied reasons. And whilst those who are obese due to overeating you cannot impose restrictions because of this.

Good idea but impossible to implement.

Hey! That is such a good idea. You could say every seat is allowed x number of pounds- including yourself and your luggage. However, the number of articles of clothing that a heavier person can bring would get exponentially smaller since their clothes are bigger and therefore heavier. A baby could bring their entire wardrobe since they are tiny and their clothes are tiny and light. Of course the baby and the fatty could trade luggage and everyone could be happy.

To answer your question- they don't do that because that would make the fat people angry and then that particular airline wouldn't have any fat customers and since we live in America and lots of people are fat then they would have very few customers and they would go out of business.

why don't u ask a fat person and see what they have to say?

apuleuis
Um? That would be a huge privacy violation to weigh every person. Not to mention inconvenient. The fuel consumption for a skinny person vs a larger person is negligible.

You some of these people haven't a clue that our beloved Federal Govt has helped make the "epidemic of obesity" more of a reality with the allowance of hormones in our food. As a doctor once told me..."IF you want to fatten up a cow, what do you do?" Answer "give it hormones." That is basically what has happened to most of the American public. The food in Europe doesn't have the preservatives and hormones in it like we do here. So sad.

Good point. It must cost the airline millions in extra fuel to carry obese bloaters across the sky.

Matthew

Because we live in a country that is afraid to offend anyone. We bit our tongues for so long, coddling the obese, that now we have a serious problem.

If we would have made it known that it was not socially responsible to be a disgusting fat slob sooner, maybe we wouldn't have an epidemic of obesity on our hands.
