Well, fuel has kinda sorta gone up... and airlines have really not done well, so they are increasing their fares to generate more revenue and hopefully one day actually make a profit. |

It's because there is a greater demand for flights right now.
The law of supply and demand dictates that if demand increases but supply remains the same, prices must rise.
Airlines absolutely positively have to charge more when demand increases or else they would be in even worse financial shape than they're in already. For a host of reasons, the airlines are not likely to greatly increase their supply of seats anytime soon. |

I have not noticed flights being overall more expensive this year. There are many cheap flights out there right now, just not what you're looking for. August is supposed to be expensive, often double what you pay in October.
The only trend I have noticed in airfare is it's no longer true that the earlier you buy, the cheaper. If you plan months ahead, that means you have firm plans and you WILL buy. They sell at high prices early to people who must fly, then later on they sell cheap to fill the planes. |

I know that the first time flight prices started to take off was when a popular airliner when out of business for selling their tickets at low prices. After that the rest of the airliners could raise their prices back up to stay in business and make a profit. Now gas and oil prices are rising and tight security (especially in the United States) has brought up the cost. There isn't much you can do about it, and chances are they'll stay like this forever until inflation catches up with the prices again. |

In UK, prices of flights have gone up because the govt. has imposed a security tax and a so-called green tax! As the dollar is pretty weak right now, maybe it's to do with the cost of aviation fuel in USA? |

Well for one the Gov is predicting a uprise in fuel costs, and in the past few years airports have gotten really tight on security and stuff causing them to have to pay more out so therefore they have to make more money, just a guess on why they might be more expensive. Plus Spring Break |

Well from what I know, normally is best to book the August vacation before Xmas to get the good prices.
Now, everyone knows more or less how much money they can put into their vacations, so they have started booking. That makes the prices go up. Hopefully this will not last. Already some are out with campaigns on cheaper trips. In one more month, I would guess it's better prices than now. When the "traffic" has cooled down on booking for the summer vacations. |
