Why can't you get cheap transatlantic flights out of Manchester? |
Tthe cheapest flight to the US or Canada from Manchester seems to cost twice as much as the cheapest from Heathrow, even though from my own experience Manchester flights are no more full than Heathrow ones |

Ahhhh! Now this is all about clever marketing and dynamic young ececutives with flair evaluating on cost statistics vis a vis the customer demand scenario - or translated into English - "We (airlines) can screw the customers when and where we can get away with it". Airlines need to offer low prices (for some reason) and they do this on high profile routes/ high competition routes.... only. London, for example, has a lot of transatlantic flights with a number of airlines - and if the US and UK Government get their act together and listen to the public rather then the Dollars talking, there will be a lot more - and as it is high profile a lot a "cheap" tickets are offered - or at least cheap if you do what you are told. Now, someone has to pay for this and the people who have to pay fall into two categories: 1. The businessman. Airlines screw businesses - big time. A lot of business people have to go last minute and, well, they just have to go. Airlines know it and screw them on the price. Category 2. "Provincial" airports (which is where you come in) As not many people want to fly trans-atlantic to Manchester and there is little competition on the route airlines can quietly screw the prices up without there being too much of a fuss. This does not only apply transatlantic but on many other routes as well. Answer: Do not fly to Manchester, fly to London and take the train (or indeed another flight). But you may have to split ticket your journey so you will need to see a travel agent. |

American Air use to fly out of there or maybe now they are using a subsiderary, either way, they were as cheap as Heathrow, and sometimes cheaper, check em out! |
