Why do airlines advertise "flotation devices", but whenever a plane lands in the water- all passengers die?

Yeah, but it's still better than nothing. I can't cite to a specific example, but there must have been some water landings where people got out of the plane before it sank and had life vests and inflatable rafts to keep them afloat before help arrived. I know of one plane crash off of Florida where people did get out and were floating in the water, but were attacked by sharks. Nobody survived, but they didn't exactly drown either.

Because not every one dies when the plane hits the water, in a controlled ditch with a skilled pilot you can survive. And if the plane slowly goes in the water people will survive like if a plane does not stop before the end of the runway but it hits the water only going around 30mph.
Just look into these accidents and you will know why there are flotation devices and how not everyone dies in every plane crash.

Most people don't die from the impact of a plane either on land or water, it's from being trapped in their seats because they don't remember to lift the top plate to unfasten their seatbelt, of from smoke inhilation, or from inflating their life vest inside the aircraft and getting stuck at the top as the aircraft fills with water. In many circumstances a crash in water, or a "ditching" is completely survivable.

Oh, and pay attention to what your floatation device actually is because I don't remember the flight, but a plane had trouble after take-off and ended up in a bay or a river of some sort, the water wasn't very deep, but people still drowned because they took their seat cushions which were NOT designed for floatation.

Because they claim only ''flotation devices'', if plane is land in the water it will drawn, but if it ''flot no passanger will die.

P.S. Planes land in the water every day, however most of them are on floats. :)

You make it seem like it's a daily occurance. I can't even remember the last time a plane "landed" in the water.

It is pointless to show people how to use the flotation devices. They do it to calm the nerves of those totally anal mothers who think that as long as there is a way to do it they will be able to save their entire family.
