signals might mess up the communication that the pilot needs |

It is because they thought they might interfere with the aeroplane's equipment, but they are now actually planning on letting people use their phones soon.
I guess they were wrong! But I bet they will charge a large fee to use the service once installed. |

I'm a flight attendant. There is lots of confusion about whether or not personal electronic devices (PEDs) interfer with navigational equipment, but it really doesn't matter. The bottom line is it is an FAA regulation (law of the air) and if disobeyed can result in a huge fine for both the passenger and the flight attendants who have not made every effort to get them turned off. That's why we work so hard to enforce it - we can't afford the fine!! |

its because the radio waves can interfere with me mechanics in the plane. same as in hospitals |

it might alter the signal. |

Because your cell phone sends out radio frequencies and it could disrupt the instruments in the cockpit that control the airplane. |

they say that the satalite signals your phone recieves may interfier with there equipment on board so when the plane is landing or taking off you are instructed to turn off all electronic devices...you can use them again once you are in the air |

Interference with Radio Comms, GPS navigation signals and other equipment. Also a load of shite of health and safety because of radiation waves etc etc. Aeroplane mode on a phone blocks the signal to and from from your phone. |

it interfears with something on the plane... dnt know what though but they do!! Yar me hearties!! |

hard to believe you don't know. the frequencies of some controls on the plane may be interfered with. you might press a "1" and the right rudder may become engaged. |

No one has proven without a doubt that cell phones do cause interference but because there is a good possibility they could when in close proximity to the ground the FAA has said you may not use them. You can't get a signal when you're at cruising altitude anyway.
Isn't it kinda nice to get a break from them for the length of time your on the aircraft anyway! |

THEY (the all-knowning unknown person) say that the freqencies of the radio waves will interfere with the navigation equipment on the flight deck (cockpit) which keeps you going in the right direction. It has been proven thta they have no effect, BUT it hasn't been tested on a large enough scale( number of tests) to prove it in the eyes of the feds. Other electronic devices do nothing either, like they ask you to turn off during flights, too. However, you can see on YouTube, many videos taken from a flying aircraft by somebody!
I do not however like the idea of being able to use them. For one, you are moving at an altitude of 7 miles from the ground; no service there. Pus, nobody likes a seat partner that yaks for 10 straight hours, not fun. :)
Cheers! |

because the cell phone readio frequencies may mix up with the plane's radip frequencies. thus confufsing the pilot. and this mite result in a crash |
|

D&ECouture

because supposedly the signal the phone is transmitting interrupts with their equipment in the cockpit |

Because they don't want a bunch of jerks & yahoos screaming into the phone and bothering all the passengers. |

1) It distracts people
2) Can interfere with signal
3) Give wrong directions
4) Systems Fail
Ex.(not true story)
"Please turn off all electrical devices."
"Sorry Sterve,gotta go."
Man! I hate this! Sterve was going to tell me about the soccer game.Gotta call him!
"Please Turn off all portable electronically systems we are going to lift off."
"Hey,sterve,I don't care it wont do any harm.So tell me which way does the ball go?"
(Interferes with signal)
"Which way do i go now?" the pilot said to the mainframe.
"It goes left, then right, now down and up, does a flip in the air! Now its in the basket!"
So the pilot thinks he's at the destination and lands but its water so it's too late and CRASH!!! |

The signals from your phone infringe on the signals being transmitted in the cockpit of your plane. THink of it this way - do you want a safe trip or do you want to jeopardize your safety by chatting on your phone during the flight? |

They say it can interfere with the controls but thats a bunch of crap.
The real reason is because they want you to use the phones they have on board and that costs a lot of cash for a short call.
In other words its just a money making idea. |

Mr Smith-T

I heard they may interfere with communications in the air. I mean you wouldn't want the pilot to not know where to land. So its just best to turn 'em off |

It can make a crash for the airplane. Due to interference in the signal being catched by the pilot! |

It only actually matters within range of cell transmission, take off and landing. What happens is that if the cell phone is recieving a call it can cause "chatter" on the radios and the pilots cannot hear ATC. Hearing the ATC at landing is so important that many airlines require the crew to keep the plane on auto pilot until 500 Ft at landing so they can focus only on the radios |
