I used to think that it was only on long haul flights that a passport gets stamped, but a chum of mine flew from Belfast to Paris and she got hers stamped. I guess you just need to ask the immigration staff when you arrive, which is what I shall be doing, when I fly to Paris on Monday morning! :)
Merry Christmas! |

It depends on the country YOU ARE FROM and the country YOU GO TO....I have several stamps from Egypt, India and Germany but they have never stamped me in France, Belgium, Italy nor Switzerland. I guess each country/airport has their own regulations. |

travel outside the EU and you will get stamped. |

It it not the responsibility of airports to stamp your passport. This is a function of immigration personnel. Unless you are going between countries, there is no need to stamp passports, and many countries have agreements that travel between them does not call for stamping of passports. A passport is not a souvenir, but a proof of identity and citizenship.
The countries that you just named are all part of the EU and no stamping is required between them.

I travel and they always stamp my passport, you must be traveling within the US, or the European Union. |

If you want the stamp, ask for it. Sometimes they will. |

they always stamp passports UNLESS you are travelling to other EU countries, or between countries that have a close relation (ie canada and usa) |

I can't give you the specific time when that may have stopped but when I lived in Germany (1990-1992) and I traveled throughout, my passport was stamped by Spain, Netherlands, U.K., and others.
But I do recall that within the EU, member countries do not stamp passports at Immigration. You could ask the nice Immigration officer to stamp your passport. |

The real answer is because it is in the EU regulations, especially being an EU citizen. I always have the same problem, and the best solution is to ask. Don't be shy, you will never meet these immigration people again, but you will always have your passport. Plus, it is completely legal, as they are legal government papers.
Have a good flight! |

They don't if you travel within the EU. Open borders and all that. Outside the EU you do.
Never do? It must be a figment of my imagination - the stamps from jamaica, st lucia, croatia, UAE, tunisia |
