Being late, and then getting further delayed brings frustration to a higher level, and that makes people who are normallly placid want to vent. However, contrary to someone else's belief, they are in no way responsible for people making their flights. You are responsible for that. Just because you pay a security fee, doesn't mean you "own them". If that was the case, people could expect police officers to turn a blind eye every time someone wants to break a law.
If there is a problem, don't get nasty or rude with the security people. The more you argue with them, criticize, or ridicule them, the more resolved they become in their belief they are right. Be civil, ask questions if you have them, but don't run your mouth. If you do, you may never get through.
Getting through security ,even if you are running late,it is still not that difficult. Even if you are unavoidedly delayed, security people still have the rules and guidelines to follow. No exceptions. If you know you're going to be late, you can do the several things while enroute to the airport, so it speeds up the process when you arrive at a security point.
First of all make sure everything you don't have an immediate need for is stored in your checked baggage. Empty out your pockets of coins, keys, etc and make sure it is in a jacket or coat. That way, the coat goes through the screening machine with everything that could set off an alarm when you walk through the security gate. Don't wear a belt with a metal buckle, or foot wear with metal studs, tacks, or buckles in them. It will set off the alarm, and further delay you while security inspects it.
Take a few seconds to scan the "read me" signs at the security entrance. Even if you're running late, these few seconds of knowledge gaining could prevent a further delay in security. |

Personally I'm happy airport security are so thorough when it comes to checking people are doing the right thing. Better than an overly-relaxed system where we're letting terrorists in. One reason people might be mad at security personel is because the airlines are so strict with their boarding procedures these days. If you miss the flight, you miss it, and it's unlikely you'll receive any understanding from the airline if you ask them to book you on another flight for free. |

Because they are really bad at providing good service to the people they work for : the flying public. The second I pay for a separate security fee on my ticket ,the people working security become in effect my employees and as such it is their job to
do what ever is necessary to make my life easier not more difficult. We all know of countless incidents where people got to the airport well within the recommend lead time and somehow wound up running late and security did nothing to help them catch their flight. As employees of the flying public it is security's obligation to make sure that ,that person makes their plane.
Security exists to serve us -because we paid for it- us doesn't exist to serve security
Security really needs to spend a week or two working at a good hotel so they have a clue as to what good customer service should look like and then apply what they learned. |
