Why do people insist on talking to me on the airplane?

It doesn't matter if I am reading or doing work, they still want to talk my ear off. I can barely hear over the engine noise and I like peace and quiet when traveling. What's up with all that talking?

for a lot of people, flying is a very stressful and frightening time. many people like to talk away their stress. they're looking for a friendly voice in a time of great confusion and worry.

there are possibly other reasons. for instance the people could be bored and trying to pass the time, or you could be very attractive.

Are you pretty ? That could be one reason.

Also some people are uneasy flying, talking makes them more at ease.
A little like whistleing in the dark.

Airplanes place strangers inside each others comfort zone. Many people find it necessary to talk to relieve the tension cause by the breach of established cultural norms.

its a comfort thing to hide their anxiety over flying perhaps? Try wearing headphones. Even if not plugged into anything, ignore the first couple of things they say and they'll soon leave you alone

i am afraid that they are all members of a secret section of the government, what they are doing is talking to you to distract and disorientate you so that the real big stuff gets past you without you knowing anything about it. it has been going on for years it is a huge conspiracy, that or your a pompous a ss who thinks that they are above and should not have to disscus things like the weather with people who are nervous or alone while traveling

Wrobinhood
You you look like a,

Cute chick with a depressed face?

Person who could blow up the plane?

If the answer to either question is yes, you know why...

Use the head plugs for the music or movies that they provide early in the flight. You don't have to have the volume turned on to use them.

Apparently, you're smart and attractive...regardless of you gender. That's why people tend to talk to you. Enjoy the attention, and talk only when you wish to. otherwise just doze off.

Could be nerves...Be neighborly say hello, listen for a minute.

First Lady
Maybe thye're nervous about flying and that helps them deal with it. I agree with you though. I don't understand why when you're obviously doing something else, people insist on talking to you!
