Why do people print their bording pass over the internet?

Why do people print off their bording pass for a air travel fight before hand, when you still are sopose to be at the airport a hour before depature. Now why not wait and get the bording pass when you get to the airport, expecailly in small airports?

Not only to save time, as everyone else above said, but with the over booking of flights these days, if you have a seat ahead of time, it helps stop you from getting bumped off the flight.

Big tip: When making your reservations online, avoid travel websites, instead go to the airlines website and make sure you take the extra step of picking out your seat. Than print out your boarding pass the night before, doing this essentially checks you in. Get to the airport 2 hours before departure, and in most cases, you'll not have to worry about getting bumped off a flight.

it is nice to have it in hand when you enter the airport and I don't have to worry about the airport's computers being 'down'

Because it's a waste of time....it's much easier to print it off the internet, so you don't have to wait in a line for ages. And you don't have to leave for the airport too early. Also by printing it off you also get priority bording, so you can also get a seat together etc.

I do it all the time. Particularly if you are traveling with hand luggage only it saves the hassle of queuing at check in. Whilst it may be different in the US, in Europe you can go straight to the gate so you only need to be at the flight 30 mins before take off.

It's the latest fashion the printing and I would not recommend it at all, it would give less employment at the airports.
The hour(here in Belgium 2 hours!) of early is necessary to lead trough all the passengers when you have a few hundred to go on a plain.

just helping
Because it would lessen the hassle of falling in line in the airport. Most of the time, the line in the printed boarding pass is shorter compared to the other one.

I agree, it's easier to print it at home, so if you are running late, and every minute counts at the airport, you can go straight to the security line.

HOWEVER, here's a question is would like to pose all of you. Does it not pose a security risk that I could "print" my boarding pass to Adobe Acrobat, save the file, and then alter the date, flight info, in order to gain access to the "sterile" area of the airport? Granted, I wouldn't be able to board the aircraft, since someone else would be in the same seat, but it just seems to be a "bad guy" could do this in order to gain access past security screening.

There are a number of reasons I print the pass beforehand and still plan to be there an hour ahead of time. It's based on the philosophy of "you never know what's going to cause a delay". The less I have to wait in any line at the airport the better. Sometimes even *getting* to the airport can be a problem if there's a traffic jam along the way.

Also if I have no luggage to check, I can go directly through security and to the gate.

All of those things save time. Although most of my travelling is large airports (Chicago, Newark, Boston), I would still plan to be there one hour ahead of time, even for smaller airports.
