Who doesn't like nuts? Most airlines serve either napkins or pretzels nowadays instead of peanuts because of peanut allergies (Southwest serves peanuts, but they have pretzels as an alternative). It's cheap, it's a favorite snack (like pretzels), and, well, it's cheap! |

Airplanes used to give food, but over time they changed to snacks and then to a lousy bag of peanuts. Peanuts are the cheapest and most widely acepted. The airlines just dont want to pay more than they have to. |
