Most "airline security" is for show, to reassure people that "something is being done" about threats that are mostly imaginary. This type of security doesn't actually improve the safety of flights but it looks impressive. The more intrusive and oppressive it is, the more people tend to assume that it's working.

Real security is usually much less visible, and unfortunately it is also much less common. The good news is that there aren't really that many threats to air travel, in relation to the volume of passengers and flights each day, so even if real security is somewhat lax, the risks remain low (although that's not an excuse for lax security).

There are many potential threats, most of them very improbable. Hijacking is one threat; bombing is another.

A bomb threat is usually a threat announced in advance to an airline or other authority about a bomb on an airplane flight. Announced bomb threats are often hoaxes, because anyone who truly wants to explode a bomb on an airplane isn't likely to announce his intentions in advance to anyone (since that would just ruin the plan).

A bomb threat is terrorist bringing bombs onto a plane and blowing everybody up. We also need security because fugitives have been known to escape the country by airplane.

That rock you've been living under must be in a pretty isolated place.

We need airline security because there are a lot of people who want to disrupt air travel in the United States as well as around the world. Airline security is to deter someone from bringing a weapon on-board an aircraft causing harm to the aircraft as well as the passengers.

As for threats, airlines receive bomb threats from people stating that a particular flight will be blown up using explosives. This happened to Pan Am over Lockerbie, Scotland except there actually was a bomb and it went off.

The other threat is the terrorism threat. There are different colors of threat levels. Red mean there is a very high threat level. Orange is the second highest, then yellow, green and blue. Usually the color changes when there is going to be a lot of people traveling, there has been some threat received by the CIA saying that certain airlines or flights are being targeted or if there is an incident at the airport where someone sets off a bomb in their car that is parked in front of an airport terminal.

LMAO are you an idiot?

I'll name a few cities, see if you can click-on to what airlines need security.

New York
London
Glasgow
Madrid

Ring any bells yet?

A bomb threat is when someone has a bomb and they are threatening us that they will blow it up while on the plane. Another threat would be if someone was beating up people on the plane trying to hijack it. That is why we need airline security.

well, a bomb threat is when someone--(usually a gang) threats to bomb the airport, or does after security. thats why there is a new thing searching for bombs. if there is no bomb, u can pass.
some other things, is guns, you have to go through metal detectors to make sure u have no gins or bullets. sometimes thigs as little as ur car keys will beep, so u give ur keys to the people, and they'll examine them carefully.

Maybe we would not of needed so much sercurity on planes , But you only have to look at the world today , and see the trouble these countries are causeing, It might be all right to say lets ignour these countries that are blowing the planes out of the sky.AND what are they seeking Publicity, Lets put it another way surely you are not surgesting that we drop the security down to the bear minion. In the States you can be sure that their is at least on arm guard on board the plane .I know i would feel a lot safer , being searched , Then just getting on a plane , and not haveing my carry on bag not search.
